About the role

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating production operations across one or more areas of the plant. This role acts as a critical link between plant leadership and front-line execution, ensuring consistent application of production requirements, standards, and priorities established by the Plant Superintendent.

The Production Supervisor provides direction, guidance, and support to Lead Hands, helping to align daily operations while proactively identifying risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. This role may oversee a specific production area or support plant-wide operations, depending on business needs.

What you'll do

  • Translate plant-level production goals into clear, actionable direction for Lead Hands and production teams.
  • Ensure consistency in production standards, workflows, and expectations across shifts and departments.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to Lead Hands and plant staff to support effective daily coordination of labour, materials, and workflow.
  • Monitor production progress against schedule; adjust priorities and resources to maintain output, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Identify and escalate risks related to production delays, staffing gaps, material shortages, or equipment issues.
  • Proactively assess upcoming production demands and plan ahead to optimize resources and minimize disruption.
  • Support Lead Hands in troubleshooting operational issues and removing barriers to productivity.
  • Reinforce accountability for safety, quality, and performance standards across the plant.
  • Promote and enforce compliance with company policies, collective agreement requirements, and health & safety regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze key production metrics (e.g., productivity, downtime, waste) and provide recommendations to plant management.
  • Drive consistency in reporting, documentation, and communication across production areas.
  • Support workforce planning activities including scheduling, vacation coordination, and attendance tracking alongside Lead Hands.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and performance management processes for production employees, in collaboration with plant management.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of process changes within production.
  • Act as a liaison between production teams and cross-functional departments (e.g., Scheduling, Engineering, Maintenance, Project Management).
  • Support a positive labour relations environment by reinforcing expectations and addressing concerns in alignment with the collective agreement.
  • Step in to provide coverage or direction across production areas as required.
  • Manage safety requirements and ensure all safety and security measures are implemented and reviewed regularly.
  • Work collaboratively and safely with colleagues in cross-functional roles and departments for related projects.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Manufacturing, Operations, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.

AND

At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with progressive leadership experience either as a team lead or supervisor

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement practices, problem solving RCCA, lean manufacturing
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing or construction environment strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of production workflows, scheduling, and plant operations
  • Experience supporting or leading continuous improvement initiatives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with ERP or production tracking systems (e.g., Sage 300, Misys) is an asset
  • Experience interpreting and reading drawings, production schedules, and operational data
  • Experience preparing metrics and reports for management
  • Experience managing or implementing occupational health and safety requirements
  • Bilingualism is an asset

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • This role is full-time on-site based on operational requirements.
  • The work environment is in a manufacturing plant, which may be dusty at times.
  • May require evening or weekend shifts on occasion.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including a full face respirator
  • Ability to lift 23 kilograms (50 lbs)
