Summary/Objective
The Director of Group Events is responsible for leading and overseeing the planning, execution, and operational success of all group events. This role drives exceptional customer satisfaction by ensuring seamless event delivery, high service standards, and strong cross-functional coordination. The Director of Events will lead, develop, and inspire a team of event coordinators while implementing efficient processes, optimizing resources, and maintaining a customer-centric approach. Through strategic oversight and hands-on leadership, this position ensures all events meet organizational goals, enhances the guest experience, and contribute to overall revenue and brand success.
Duties/Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development – 60%
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of event coordinators to drive performance and engagement
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to review performance, provide feedback, and support ongoing training and development
- Set clear goals, monitor progress, and ensure team accountability for results
- Oversee daily operations, staffing schedules, and business priorities to ensure efficiency and alignment
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with invoicing, billing, and accounting procedures
- Facilitate regular departmental meetings and actively participate in broader management meetings
- Oversee event coordination processes to ensure seamless execution of all group business
- Ensure all group details, contracts, and client requirements are accurately documented and effectively communicated across teams
- Maintain high service and quality standards by holding the team accountable for event execution
- Address and resolve customer inquiries, concerns, and escalations in a timely and professional manner
Cross Department Collaboration – 15%
- Ensure compliance with all departmental policies and procedures while supporting cross-functional alignment.
- Partner with Executive Leadership to develop and execute group pricing and revenue strategies.
- Collaborate with catering team ensuring event details are communicated properly for execution
- Collaborate with internal teams to align sales deployment strategies with market demand and competitive insights.
- Maintain strong relationships with community partners, industry peers, and third-party vendors.
- Represent the organization in both local and hospitality communities.
- Support team objectives by contributing to additional projects and responsibilities as needed.
Sales & Event Execution – 25%
- Partner with Sales Leadership to support large group and convention opportunities, providing operational expertise during the sales process
- Collaborate on site visits, client presentations, and proposal development for high-value and complex group business
- Provide strategic input on event feasibility, staffing, logistics, and service delivery to secure and retain key accounts
- Assume direct oversight and execution of high-profile, VIP, and complex group events to ensure exceptional delivery and client satisfaction
- Act as the primary point of contact for select top-tier clients during the planning and execution phases
- Ensure all high-impact events are executed flawlessly, meeting brand standards and exceeding client expectations
- Identify opportunities to enhance the guest experience and drive incremental revenue within large group and convention business
- Support post-event reviews for key accounts, analyzing performance, client feedback, and opportunities for continuous improvement
- Maintain strong relationships with repeat and high-value clients to support retention and future business growth
- Represent TRMF at industry events and networking opportunities to expand brand presence and generate leads. Travel as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises a team of event coordinators
- Manages training, recognition programs, team building, discipline, and termination of employees in collaboration with supervisor and Human Resources.

- Knowledge of property management systems and ticketing software (Opera, eTix)
- Knowledgeable in all Microsoft Suite applications
- Knowledge of CRM platforms (Salesforce)
- Effective system and process builder
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum (5-7) years working in event management, hospitality, or group/convention services
- Minimum (3-5) years leadership experience managing event teams or related staff
- Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) or similar industry certification preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, sales, marketing, or related field preferred
- Proven record of accomplishment of successfully planning and executing large-scale, complex, or high-profile events
- Experience working with group sales teams and supporting convention or large group business
- Knowledge of the travel industry, current market trends, and economic factors.
Work Environment
This position is in an office environment. Evenings, weekends, and holidays are required from April through October.
