Job Description
Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity, and find security in their lives.
Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.
OPPORTUNITY
The Director of Annual Fund reports to the Director of Development and leads the strategy, execution, and growth of Rosie’s Place’s annual fund programs. The Director supervises staff and oversees annual fund revenue streams, including special events, direct mail, recurring giving, employee campaigns, and matching gifts. This role also provides strategic oversight of gift processing, donor acknowledgment, and fundraising database operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership & Strategy
- Collaborate with internal departments to develop a deep understanding of Rosie’s Place’s mission and programs and communicate the organization’s impact effectively to donors and stakeholders.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward mid-level donors, and conduct prospect research to identify and help transition potential major donor prospects.
- Lead the organization’s direct mail program, including copy development and management of external vendors.
- Design and oversee the delivery of strong fundraising events, gift processing, reporting, and overall Development operations.
- Provide strategic direction and solicitation support for all fundraising events — including Funny Women…Serious Business, the Safe & Sound Gala, and third-party events on behalf of others (EOBOs) — ensuring strong sponsor stewardship and effective committee engagement.
- Direct and grow key revenue streams, including tribute gifts, monthly giving, employee giving, matching gifts, and the Young Professionals program.
- Evaluate and enhance fundraising models to stay current with best practices and developments in the field in order to meet the evolving field and needs of Rosie’s Place.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within all aspects of the Annual Fund programs.
Administrative Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, support, and develop staff, ensuring regular individual and team meetings and annual performance reviews.
- Provide consistent guidance and leadership that fosters professional growth and accountability.
- Lead the development and ongoing management of the Annual Fund program’s budget.
- Ensure staff receive targeted training and professional development to meet individual and program needs.
- Oversee staffing and coverage for Annual Fund programs.
- Ensure accurate database records and generate required reports as needed.
- Uphold confidentiality and safeguard donor privacy.
- Ensure compliance with Rosie’s Place policies and procedures.
- Represent Rosie’s Place in the broader community, reflecting our values in all interactions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Development.
- Fulfill responsibilities as a member of the Management Team, including participation at appropriate meetings and demonstrating leadership to all of Rosie’s Place.

- 5–7 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience, including leadership of annual fund programs and special events preferred.
- Deep commitment to social justice and the mission of Rosie’s Place.
- At least 3 years of experience supervising staff, with demonstrated success in team leadership and performance management of a diverse team.
- Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex and dynamic situations with composure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing annual fundraising strategies, with a track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals.
- Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge (or comparable CRM) and strong data analysis skills, with the ability to use reporting to inform strategy and decision-making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other commonly used software platforms.
- Reliable, adaptable, and collaborative team member with a proactive work ethic.
WORK EXPECTATIONS
We are a hands-on team and seek employees who are passionate about our work and service to our community. The Director of Annual Fund is a full-time, exempt position. While the Director of Annual Fund is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, they must work on-site at Rosie’s Place during part of their work week and engage regularly with staff, guests, and volunteers. They are also expected to be flexible with their in-person days to participate in organization events and other work obligations. This position may require travel between Rosie’s Place facilities and community locations. We adopt safety protocols related to public health as we understand them, which all employees must follow. Among these protocols, we require all employees to be up to date with their yearly vaccinations. Requests for exemptions are considered.?
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The starting salary range for this position is $110,000—$130,000 commensurate with experience. Rosie’s Place offers a robust benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, pension contributions, paid vacation, and more.
SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday Availability to attend occasional evening meetings and weekend events as required.
