Position Purpose:
Provision of treatments, therapies including medication, to patients of all ages in accordance with physician
written orders and in accordance with the organization and department policies and procedures. Has knowledge
and training to apply special equipment and techniques in a manner that provides positive patient outcome. Has
knowledge and training to assess patients for respiratory care needs and support, and ability to assess treatment or
therapy outcome. Completes documentation of all aspects of patient care.
Education and Work Experience:
Registry. One weekend per month. Varied shifts
Graduate of an approved two-year School of Respiratory Care or equivalent with current credentials of
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
Compliant with PPD requirements.
Six (6) to twelve (12) months of previous experience in an inpatient care setting is desirable.
Knowledge and Skills:
Be able to apply the learned principles, methods, and techniques of Respiratory Care, the use, care and
operation of Respiratory Care equipment and supplies.
Must know the various locations of departments within the hospital, their policies and procedures.
Professional communication skills are required.
Ability to work with a culturally diverse patient and employee population in an effective and efficient
manner that promotes teamwork, optimizes patient outcomes and efficiently utilizes available resources.
Ability to accurately assess patient needs in conjunction with physician written orders to determine the
most effective therapy or treatment modality to optimize patient outcome.
Ability to effectively and efficiently participate in critical situations relying upon learned skills and
experience.

Must meet the requirements for employment with the hospital as outlined under General Job requirements
Personnel-policy 7-0, and in addition must meet specific job specific qualifications.
Experience in EPIC and MEDITECH software systems preferred.
Certifications/Licenses:
Must have current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification (CPR).
Must have a valid State of Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
