CNC Machinist / CNC Setup Technician
Location: Baltimore, MD
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Starting Pay: From $28.00/hour (higher compensation available based on experience)
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join a growing manufacturing team. This role is responsible for machine setup, operation, programming support, quality inspection, and process improvement in a precision machining environment. Candidates should be comfortable working independently while maintaining production schedules and quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities- Set up and operate multi-axis CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines.
- Read and interpret blueprints, machining drawings, work orders, and manufacturing specifications.
- Produce precision-machined components while maintaining required tolerances.
- Inspect completed parts using standard measuring and inspection equipment.
- Edit existing CNC programs and create new programs when needed.
- Develop and improve fixturing and setup methods to support efficient production.
- Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and setup issues to minimize downtime.
- Monitor production schedules and complete assigned work with minimal supervision.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and preventative upkeep.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment.
- Collaborate with production leadership on tooling, fixtures, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience performing complete CNC machine setups in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong knowledge of machining practices, tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and setup procedures.
- Experience working with aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel materials.
- Ability to verify part quality using precision inspection equipment.
- Proven ability to work independently and solve machining-related issues.
- 3+ years of CNC programming and program editing experience.
- 4–5 years of fixture design, setup development, or production process improvement experience.
- 3+ years of experience using SolidWorks CAM Professional.
- Experience supporting both prototype and production machining operations.
