Position Summary:
MSPS is looking to hire a Health Care Interior Design / Health Care Planning Support professional. This position provides healthcare interior design, space planning, activation planning, and operational readiness support for Defense Health Agency (DHA) Facilities Enterprise projects. The selected candidate will support the planning, design, construction, Initial Outfitting & Transition (IO&T), commissioning, and activation of military healthcare facilities. This position collaborates with DHA leadership, healthcare stakeholders, architects, engineers, medical planners, contractors, and facility users to create functional, safe, and patient-centered healthcare environments that support mission requirements and operational efficiency. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support healthcare interior design and planning activities throughout the facility lifecycle.
- Assist with healthcare space planning, utilization studies, and operational workflow assessments.
- Participate in planning and design reviews to ensure compliance with healthcare design standards and operational requirements.
- Develop recommendations for interior finishes, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment that support healthcare operations and design intent.
- Coordinate furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) planning activities with project stakeholders.
- Assist with signage, wayfinding, and environmental graphics planning.
- Support Initial Outfitting & Transition (IO&T) planning and execution activities.
- Utilize the Department of Defense Space and Equipment Planning System (SEPS) to support planning and activation efforts.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers, facility staff, architects, engineers, equipment planners, and contractors.
- Participate in commissioning, occupancy readiness, move planning, and post-occupancy evaluation activities.
- Prepare reports, planning documentation, presentations, schedules, and project correspondence.
- Maintain project documentation and records management requirements.
- Review detailed design and planning documentation.
- Participate in site visits, facility assessments, and construction walkthroughs.
- Frequent collaboration with healthcare providers, architects, engineers, medical planners, contractors, and Government personnel.
- Periodic travel to military treatment facilities, project sites, and active construction environments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Education and Industry Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Healthcare Planning, Environmental Design, or related field preferred.
- Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of experience supporting healthcare facility projects.
- Minimum one (1) year supporting NAVFAC and/or USACE medical facility projects.
- Experience supporting healthcare facility planning, design, activation, or occupancy readiness activities.
- Experience working with hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, specialty clinics, research facilities, or military healthcare environments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of healthcare interior design principles, healthcare planning methodologies, and clinical workflow requirements.
- Working knowledge of healthcare design standards and healthcare facility operations.
- Knowledge of DoD healthcare planning criteria and facility requirements.
- Familiarity with the Department of Defense Space and Equipment Planning System (SEPS).
- Knowledge of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) planning and procurement processes.
- Working knowledge of UFC requirements, NFPA standards, ADA/ABA requirements, and Joint Commission expectations.
- Ability to review drawings, specifications, finish schedules, and healthcare planning documentation.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience with interior design software platforms preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and project coordination skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project.
Certifications/Licenses/Other
- NCIDQ certification preferred.
- Professional interior design registration preferred.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain any required credentials, clearances, licenses, or authorizations associated with the worksite or contract.
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based within DHA Facilities Enterprise offices located in Falls Church, Virginia.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
