STEAM and Digital Media Teacher
Start Date: Late August 2026
Reports to: Head of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)
Brief Description: The STEAM and Digital Media Teacher will work in conjunction with the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Team and the head of VAPA to teach Science, Technology, Engineering, Photography and Media, including digital citizenship to students in the Elementary and Middle School programs (students in grades 1-8). This work will be done in accordance with the BHMS mission, the Statement of Diversity, the principles of Montessori educational philosophy and practices, the curriculum, and the policies of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School. This position is a full-time position.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide a high standard of care and teaching to students during school hours, including vigilance around both safety and learning
- Collaborate with the Head of VAPA to create and teach interesting, current STEAM classes including but not limited to Photography, 3D printing, coding, engineering, digital media, digital citizenship and other relevant topics.
- Support VAPA team with theater/musical productions including Theater Tech: lighting, sound, and media.
- Prepare, update and share lesson plans with the Head of VAPA
- Manage, update, and utilize our Maker Space with students
- Develop, review, and update curriculum and curriculum maps as needed in conjunction with the Head of VAPA
- Be in attendance at school in accordance with the times set forth in the letter of agreement
- Maintain a “prepared” environment in the classroom/makerspace and other areas used for instruction
- Maintain student records with regard to attendance, achievement, and report-writing
- Prepare reports for parents in accordance with the established policies of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School
- Prepare for and participate in regular parent-teacher conferences as set forth on the school calendar
- Participate in regularly scheduled day and overnight trips with students
- Attend and participate in various evening meetings, such as Back-to-School Night, Parent Education, and Community events
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled program-level, faculty, and faculty and staff meetings
- Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, parents, and other teachers and school personnel
- Comply with the established policies and procedures of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as stated in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
- Model as fully as possible the values in the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School Mission Statement, Diversity Statement, and Community Norms
- Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by Head of VAPA and/or the Assistant Head of School, or Head of School
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
- Three years of teaching experience minimum
- Experience with the following a plus: darkroom photography, poster design, animation, Theater Tech, sound, projection design, video editing, lighting design
Salary range is $76,000-80,000 commensurate with experience, and qualifications and aligned with the school’s financial landscape .
