Job Title: Field Engineer – Water Treatment
Full Time / Part Time: Full Time
Summary
The Field Engineer – Water Treatment is responsible for the safe, reliable, and technically correct execution of water treatment operations at the job site. This role serves as the on-site technical authority, ensuring treatment systems, operating parameters, and processes meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and DHI performance standards.
This position bridges engineering intent and field execution, protecting DHI from operational failures, environmental incidents, customer disputes, and lost revenue through disciplined execution, real-time troubleshooting, and technical leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Operational & Technical Execution
• Design, verify, and deploy water treatment process configurations including flow paths, filtration, chemical injection, solids separation, polishing, and discharge.
• Validate and control operating parameters such as flow rate, pressure, chemical dosing, retention time, and treatment targets.
• Oversee system startup, tuning, and steady-state operations to achieve required performance.
• Monitor treatment performance in real time and adjust processes to maintain compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
• Troubleshoot process upsets, equipment malfunctions, chemistry issues, and flow disruptions.
• Lead safe, efficient rig-up and rig-down of water treatment systems.
Quality, Compliance & Risk Control
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits, discharge limits, reuse specifications, and customer quality requirements.
• Actively participate in Process hazard Analysis (PHA) and Process Safety Start Up Review (PSSR)
• Verify sampling, testing, and reporting activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Maintain complete and accurate treatment logs, flow data, and operational records.
• Immediately identify, escalate, and document deviations from specifications, permits, or SOPs.
• Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
• Ownership Standard Operating Procedures and engineering standards in the field.
Equipment & System Management
• Verify equipment installation meets engineering, operational, and safety standards.
• Confirm proper configuration of tanks, pumps, chemical systems, filters, DAF units, membranes, and associated piping.
• Identify equipment damage, performance degradation, or improper operation.
• Ensure all assets are operated within design and safety limits.
• Coordinate with maintenance, fleet, and supply chain teams on repairs, replacements, or system changes.
Customer, Sales & Commercial Support
• Serve as the on-site technical representative for DHI with customers and third parties.
• Support Sales and Commercial teams during customer meetings, site walks, and technical discussions.
• Lead cost estimating for treatment jobs by utilizing DHI Estimator.
• Communicate system performance, sampling results, and process design clearly to customers.
• Translate customer requirements into treatment solutions and execution plans.
• Support cost modeling, system sizing, and pricing inputs in collaboration with DHI Estimators.
• Assist with preparation of technical scopes, assumptions, and bid packages.
Systems, Reporting & Data Integrity
• Maintain detailed job logs, sampling results, chemical usage records, and operating parameters.
• Support KPI tracking for uptime, treatment efficiency, compliance, and cost control.
Training & Continuous Improvement
• Train operators and technicians on proper treatment processes, SOP’s and system operation.
• Support Operations Manager and Field Supervisor’s in assessing team competency and performance.
• Provide feedback to Engineering and Service Line leadership on process improvements, failures, and design gaps.
• Lead SOP updates, technical reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
• Experience in produced water, frac water, industrial water treatment, or similar operations.
• Strong understanding of filtration, flotation, chemical treatment, membranes, and clarification processes.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, layouts, and process flow diagrams.
• Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting pumps, tanks, chemical systems, and treatment equipment.
• Strong documentation, reporting, and customer communication skills.
• Willingness to work in oilfield and industrial field environments under varying conditions.
Work Environment & Schedule
• Field-based role with significant time spent at active job sites.
• Work schedule varies based on operational needs, including nights, weekends, and call-outs.
