Job Description


This is a professional position responsible for administering a comprehensive promotions and sponsorships programming function within the Campus Recreation Department. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director of Campus Recreation.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

One year of related experience is required. Experience in marketing, advertising, and layout design is required. Experience in production of printed materials and management of web services is preferred. Experience working with students in a higher education environment is preferred. Supervisory experience is preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates graduate and undergraduate student employees.
  2. Coordinates comprehensive campus recreation promotions and sponsorships programming function, to include producing departmental publications and marketing content; coordinating temporary signage/bulletin boards; approving signage, photography and video filming in recreational facilities; and managing departmental website and social media in collaboration with University Marketing Communications.
  3. Generates revenue for the department through sponsorship sales, gift-in-kind donations, and facilities advertisements.
  4. Plans, develops, implements, promotes, and monitors effectiveness of promotions and sponsorships initiatives including various marketing and promotional efforts to campus and local community.
  5. Administers promotions and sponsorships program budget and payroll function.
  6. Maintains in-house electronic messaging system.
  7. Ensures photos and videos needed for promotional purposes are taken for all program areas and edited for use.
  8. Researches and applies new knowledge and techniques to current policies, procedures, and operations.
  9. Serves as liaison to faculty and staff, student organizations, external vendors, and the community.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Places work orders when needed.
  2. Purchases equipment when needed.
  3. Serves on departmental and university committees.
  4. Coordinates and/or assists with special events as necessary.
  5. Works evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
  6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
  2. Knowledge of marketing principles, including promotions, sponsorships, and public relations.
  3. Knowledge of professional standards and regulations.
  4. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, word processing, publication, and graphic design software.
  5. Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
  6. Ability to effectively market the programs and services of the department.
  7. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.
  8. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  10. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  11. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and work as part of a team.
  12. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
  13. Ability to train and supervise others.
  14. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
