The Legal Counsel - Privacy will own privacy and data protection initiatives, providing strategic guidance and building scalable frameworks that enable secure product development and international growth.
- Lead privacy and data protection assessments to support product launches, market expansion, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to embed privacy-by-design principles into development processes, including reviewing data flows, retention practices, and technical implementations.
- Manage privacy impact assessments (DPIAs), records of processing activities, transfer assessments, and other core privacy program documentation.
- Support the handling of data subject rights requests (DSARs) in collaboration with internal teams.
- Develop and maintain privacy frameworks, templates, workflows, and operational processes that improve efficiency and scalability.
- Review and negotiate data processing agreements, vendor agreements, and privacy-related contractual terms.
- Design and evaluate international data transfer mechanisms, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), transfer impact assessments, and adequacy analyses.
- Create self-service privacy review processes and AI-assisted workflows to streamline routine legal inquiries and risk assessments.
- Advise senior leadership with clear, practical guidance on privacy risks, opportunities, and business decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure privacy requirements align with business objectives, security standards, and responsible data practices.
- Leverage AI tools to improve legal workflows, accelerate research, and develop innovative privacy processes.
The ideal candidate will bring strong privacy law expertise, a technology-focused mindset, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment.
- 4+ years of experience in privacy and data protection law, including practical application of GDPR and US state privacy regulations.
- Active US bar admission and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Experience advising technology, product, or engineering teams on privacy-by-design, data governance, and compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of privacy frameworks, data processing activities, and cross-border transfer requirements.
- Experience with DPIAs, records of processing, privacy reviews, and data protection agreements.
- Proven ability to use AI tools such as Claude, Gemini, or similar solutions to improve legal workflows and build AI-assisted processes.
- Business-oriented approach with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and provide practical solutions.
- Strong collaboration skills and experience partnering with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to operate with autonomy, ownership, and sound judgment in an evolving environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a distributed, high-growth environment with changing priorities and ambiguity.
