This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Java Backend based in Brazil.

This role offers the opportunity to engineer mission-critical backend services supporting large-scale IT operations across millions of managed endpoints and servers. You will design, develop, and evolve highly available software within a distributed cloud environment. Working alongside experienced backend, UI, and systems engineers, you will contribute to complex services involving real-time communication, session management, and reliable data flows. You will have significant influence over architecture, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability. The position combines hands-on development with technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and mentorship. It is well suited to an experienced Java engineer who enjoys solving complex distributed-systems challenges at scale.

• Lead the design and development of large-scale backend applications and services, delivering reliable, maintainable, and high-quality software.
• Design and implement scalable solutions using Java and modern backend engineering practices within a distributed cloud environment.
• Influence critical architectural decisions, balancing scalability, performance, technical debt, maintainability, and business requirements.
• Develop and improve services supporting high-availability, client-server communication, asynchronous processing, and real-time distributed workflows.
• Work on backend infrastructure responsible for connection negotiation, session state, communication reliability, and data flows across geographically distributed environments.
• Identify and resolve complex system-design and performance challenges, including large-scale datastore bottlenecks and caching requirements.
• Take ownership of technical initiatives from conception through delivery, proactively identifying challenges and driving improvements based on customer and support feedback.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, product stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams to align technical decisions and deliver effective solutions.
• Promote quality-first engineering practices, including robust testing, reliability, maintainability, and performance optimization.
• Mentor junior engineers, share technical knowledge, and contribute to engineering standards and best practices across projects.
• Support additional technical initiatives and responsibilities that contribute to the success and evolution of the engineering organization.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional experience developing Java software, particularly for product-focused applications.
• 5+ years of experience designing, building, or operating highly scalable systems.
• Proven ability to scale software platforms and solve complex system architecture and distributed-systems challenges.
• Deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, and software engineering best practices.
• Strong expertise in API design and RESTful services, including experience with frameworks such as Spring.
• Strong knowledge of relational database design and development, with an understanding of performance and scalability considerations.
• Experience working with caching systems and large-scale data stores.
• Familiarity with asynchronous application design, client-server architecture, and cloud-based services is highly valuable.
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang, PostgreSQL, and AWS-based environments is an advantage, although direct experience with the full technology stack is not mandatory.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a track record of addressing complex technical challenges.
• Ability to make sound architectural decisions while balancing technical excellence with business priorities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical guidance without requiring formal people-management responsibilities.
• A quality-focused mindset and commitment to building reliable, scalable, and maintainable software.
• Data warehouse experience and familiarity with testing or automation tooling are considered a plus.
• Professional English proficiency and an English-language resume are required.
