Job Description

Information Systems Engineer 2

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Information Systems Engineer 2 based in the United States.

This role supports the technical certification and testing lifecycle for merchant and point-of-sale environments across assigned portfolios.
You will coordinate complex certification projects from initial scope discovery through laboratory testing, production release, and post-launch stabilization.
The position combines systems engineering, technical QA, payment processing, network connectivity, SQL-based data validation, and operational troubleshooting.
You will work closely with external clients, engineering teams, network operations, product support, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
A strong focus is placed on data integrity, technical specification compliance, secure connectivity, and reliable transaction processing.
You will also have opportunities to introduce AI-assisted diagnostics, automation, and process improvements that reduce manual effort and operational risk.
This is a strong opportunity for a technically curious professional who enjoys solving complex problems in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Coordinate and guide 90- to 180-day technical certification lifecycles, managing activities from initiation and scope discovery through lab testing, beta testing, production release, and post-launch stabilization.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for assigned merchant and POS vendor portfolios, coordinating requirements, timelines, testing activities, and issue resolution.
  • Create, customize, maintain, and troubleshoot technical test scripts based on customer hardware and software configurations, including full certification and regression testing.
  • Configure test environments using relevant portals and tools, including test cards, transaction prompts, velocity limits, and other account-specific parameters.
  • Partner with client engineering teams to establish secure network connectivity using technologies such as SSL, VPN, and Direct Connect.
  • Execute intermediate to advanced SQL queries to audit test results, validate transaction outputs, investigate discrepancies, and confirm data integrity against system logs and test documentation.
  • Troubleshoot authorization failures, script execution issues, POS terminal problems, transaction anomalies, and data-file questions during testing and production support activities.
  • Ensure technical implementations adhere to applicable interface specifications, including ISO 8583 card payment authorization standards and proprietary transaction file formats.
  • Support successful production launches by issuing certification documentation and providing hands-on technical assistance during the post-launch stabilization period.
  • Lead technical kickoff meetings, alignment sessions, project updates, and issue-resolution discussions with external customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with merchant development, network operations, product support, engineering, and other teams to resolve technical dependencies and maintain project momentum.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate AI-assisted diagnostics, automation scripts, and other technologies that improve testing efficiency, scalability, and operational risk management.
  • Maintain clear project documentation, testing records, technical findings, and stakeholder communications throughout the certification lifecycle.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in payment processing, IT systems support, technical QA, network interface testing, or a comparable technical environment.
  • Strong understanding of technical interface specifications and the ability to interpret and apply API and network interface testing requirements.
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL skills, with the ability to query databases, validate transaction results, investigate system logs, and identify data discrepancies.
  • Hands-on experience creating, executing, analyzing, and troubleshooting technical test scripts and validation files.
  • Understanding of payment processing workflows, transaction testing, POS environments, or related systems is highly valuable.
  • Experience with secure network connectivity concepts and technologies such as SSL, VPN, and Direct Connect is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple technical activities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence working directly with external customers and cross-functional technical teams.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, particularly when addressing complex technical bottlenecks.
  • High intellectual curiosity, resilience, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with distributed teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to successfully complete a required background investigation.
  • Preferred: certifications or additional education in quality assurance, payment systems, project management, or related disciplines.
  • Preferred: familiarity with proprietary payment network schemes, transaction workflows, payment test environments, terminal configuration, eManager-type portals, and EMV/CHIP parameters.
  • Preferred: experience with process automation, scripting languages, data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI, or other tools that improve technical operations.
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual base salary of approximately $81,200–$96,900, with actual compensation determined by qualifications, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement savings plan.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options.
  • Paid time off.
  • Life insurance and disability insurance.
  • Tuition reimbursement and additional professional development support.
  • Fully remote work opportunity within the United States.
  • Opportunity to work on complex payment technology, certification, systems testing, and automation initiatives.
  • Collaborative environment with exposure to engineering, network operations, product support, and external technical stakeholders.
  • Opportunities to contribute to AI and automation initiatives designed to improve scalability and operational efficiency.
