Description:

Checkmate Coatings is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations across a growing multi-location organization. This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing bookkeeping and payroll processes, supporting intercompany activity, and producing timely financial reporting for management.

The ideal candidate is highly proficient in QuickBooks, understands the accounting needs of multiple entities and locations, and is comfortable owning the accounting process from transaction-level bookkeeping through financial statement preparation and analysis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and general ledger activity
  • Maintain accurate financial records across multiple entities and locations
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Oversee payroll processing, payroll reconciliations, and related accounting entries
  • Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Record and reconcile intercompany transfers, intercompany loans, and other related-party transactions
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and accounting for transactions between affiliated entities
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare monthly income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reporting
  • Review financial statements for accuracy and identify unusual trends or variances
  • Prepare management reporting and financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Analyze revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, payroll, and other key financial metrics
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
  • Maintain and improve the company's chart of accounts and accounting processes
  • Work closely with operations and management to ensure transactions are properly coded and reported
  • Coordinate with external CPAs, tax professionals, insurance providers, payroll providers, and other financial partners as needed
  • Assist with annual tax preparation, audits, and other compliance requirements
  • Develop and maintain strong accounting controls and standardized procedures as the company continues to grow
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and financial visibility
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or financial management experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full accounting cycle
  • Strong understanding of debits, credits, accrual accounting, and general ledger accounting
  • Experience preparing and reviewing P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
  • Experience with payroll processing and payroll accounting
  • Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Experience accounting for intercompany transfers and multi-entity transactions
  • Ability to manage accounting for multiple companies or business locations simultaneously
  • Strong financial analysis skills and ability to explain financial results to non-accounting leaders
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to manage deadlines and independently oversee recurring accounting processes
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to identify accounting discrepancies and follow issues through resolution
  • Comfortable working in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment where processes continue to evolve
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial and payroll information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a multi-location or multi-entity organization
  • Experience with intercompany accounting and consolidating financial information across entities
  • Experience in construction, home services, field services, or another operationally intensive business
  • Experience with Jobber, Paylocity, Odoo, or similar ERP/operational systems
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, and management-level financial analysis
  • CPA or accounting certification is a plus but not required
