Assistant Coach, Basketball

Wesleyan College, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), seeks qualified candidates for an Assistant Coach / Player Development Coach for Women's Basketball.

The Assistant Coach / Player Development Coach will assist the Head Women's Basketball Coach in carrying out the objectives of the athletics program as outlined by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics. The primary responsibility of this position will be the development of student-athletes through individual skill development, basketball fundamentals, game preparation, and team strategies. The Assistant Coach / Player Development Coach will also play a significant role in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes and will assist with the planning and coordination of team travel and itineraries.

This position reports directly to the Head Women's Basketball Coach in conjunction with the Director of Athletics. The successful candidate will be expected to know and/or quickly familiarize themselves with and adhere to all NAIA, SSAC, and Wesleyan College rules, regulations, and policies.

Pay for this position is a $2,500 stipend paid monthly over the course of the basketball season.


Essential Duties:

    Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, workouts, individual skill-development sessions, and team activities. Serve as a primary resource for individual player development, including fundamental skills, position-specific development, basketball IQ, decision-making, and overall performance.Develop and implement individual player development plans in collaboration with the Head Coach. Assist in preparing student-athletes for competition through film study, scouting, game preparation, and implementation of team and individual strategies. Assist with coaching during practices, games, and other team activities. Assist the Head Coach with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes in accordance with NAIA, SSAC, and Wesleyan College rules and regulations. Identify, evaluate, communicate with, and build relationships with prospective student-athletes and their families. Assist with recruiting visits, campus visits, prospect evaluations, recruiting events, and other recruiting activities as assigned by the Head Coach. Assist in maintaining positive and professional relationships with prospective student-athletes, current student-athletes, families, high school coaches, club coaches, and other recruiting contacts. Coordinate team travel logistics in conjunction with the Head Coach and appropriate College personnel. Develop and maintain team travel itineraries, including transportation, lodging, meals, departure times, arrival times, game schedules, and other necessary travel information. Communicate travel itineraries and updates effectively to student-athletes, coaches, and appropriate College personnel. Assist with team travel, including transportation, lodging, meals, game-day logistics, and other responsibilities associated with team competition. Adhere to and support the academic standards and requirements of Wesleyan College regarding the eligibility and academic progress of student-athletes. Assist student-athletes by providing appropriate advice and assistance to support their academic, athletic, and personal development. Monitor and encourage student-athlete accountability, preparation, discipline, and commitment to team expectations. Report any known or suspected violations of Wesleyan College, NAIA, or SSAC rules and regulations to the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics. Assist with administrative responsibilities related to the women's basketball program as assigned by the Head Coach. Represent Wesleyan College and the women's basketball program in a professional manner at all times.
Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree preferred. One or more years of successful high school, college, or professional playing experience is preferred. Previous collegiate coaching experience preferred, particularly at the NAIA, NCAA, or junior college level. Demonstrated ability to develop student-athletes' individual basketball skills and overall understanding of the game. Ability to evaluate talent and assist with the identification and recruitment of prospective student-athletes. Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate team travel and manage detailed itineraries. Ability to assess a team's competitive strengths and vulnerabilities. Demonstrated skill in making recommendations to enhance individual and team performance. Working knowledge of or willingness to learn NAIA and SSAC rules and regulations. Ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel.
