JOB PURPOSE:

The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, glassware, and work areas to support efficient food service operations in a fast-paced restaurant and/or catering environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring kitchen and service teams have the clean tools and equipment necessary to operate effectively while upholding company standards for safety, sanitation, cleanliness, and operational excellence.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Washes and sanitizes all kitchen wares including pots, pans, sheet trays, utensils, flatware, glassware, and service equipment using manual and automated dishwashing methods in accordance with health and sanitation standards.
  • Operates dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently while monitoring water temperature, chemical levels, and sanitation procedures to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing of all items.
  • Organizes, dries, and correctly stores clean dishes, cookware, utensils, and equipment in designated storage areas to support efficient kitchen and service operations.
  • Maintains adequate stock levels of dishes, glassware, utensils, and service items throughout service by replenishing serving stations, kitchen areas, storage areas, and service stations as needed.
  • Cleans and sanitizes dishwashing stations, sinks, floors, mats, drains, trash receptacles, and surrounding work areas regularly throughout shifts to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Removes trash, recycling, and food waste from kitchen and service areas and properly cleans waste containers using water, steam, and approved cleaning products.
  • Transports dishwashing supplies, chemicals, equipment, and clean wares between storage and operational areas manually or with carts and hand trucks while following safe lifting and handling procedures.
  • Assists kitchen staff with basic food preparation, ingredient handling, or other support duties as assigned, including washing produce, portioning items, or preparing service supplies.
  • Supports kitchen opening, closing, and side work responsibilities, including breakdown and deep cleaning of dish and kitchen support areas.
  • Maintains clean, safe, and organized work areas at all times while adhering to all company policies and local and state regulations related to food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and cleanliness standards.
  • Communicates effectively with kitchen and service staff to support efficient workflow and timely turnaround of clean dishes, cookware, and service equipment during high-volume periods.
  • All Other Duties as Assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrates reliability and efficiency in a fast-paced, dining environment while maintaining productivity during busy service periods.
  • Follows verbal and written instructions accurately and completes assigned tasks in accordance with operational procedures and expectations.
  • Maintains compliance with health, sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety standards, including proper cleaning, chemical handling, and dishwashing procedures.
  • Maintains focus and attention to detail in a loud, fast-moving, and physically demanding kitchen environment while working safely around equipment and hot surfaces.
  • Works cooperatively and professionally with kitchen and service staff to support efficient operations and a positive team environment.
  • Maintains clean, organized, and properly stocked work areas throughout shifts while assisting with additional cleaning and support duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, dependability, and physical stamina necessary to perform repetitive cleaning, lifting, and standing tasks throughout extended shifts.
  • Flexible schedule availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Previous dishwashing, stewarding, kitchen utility, restaurant, food hall, catering, or food service experience preferred.
  • Experience working in high-volume or fast-paced hospitality environments preferred.
  • Basic understanding of sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety practices preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stands and walks continuously for extended periods, often 6–8 hours per shift.
  • Frequently bends, stoops, twists, reaches, kneels, and performs repetitive hand and arm motions throughout shifts.
  • Lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls up to 60 pounds regularly and occasionally moves heavier items with assistance or equipment.
  • Works safely in hot, wet, humid, and fast-paced kitchen environments with exposure to cleaning chemicals, steam, and slippery surfaces.
  • Handles dishwashing equipment, cleaning tools, kitchen equipment, sharp objects, and hot surfaces safely.
  • Maintains productivity and focus in loud, high-volume working environments.
  • Uses manual dexterity to operate dishwashing machines, sinks, cleaning equipment, carts, and hand trucks.
  • Works flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as business needs require.
