Role Overview
VersAbility Resources is seeking an experienced and strategic Director – Government Contracts and Development to provide operational leadership and business development support across our Government Contracts division. This leadership role oversees assigned federal contracts and programs, ensuring contract requirements, customer expectations, regulatory standards, and organizational objectives are consistently achieved.
The Director serves as a key representative of VersAbility with government customers and external partners while providing leadership through Project Managers across multiple locations. The position combines government contract operations, people leadership, customer relations, pricing and proposal development, compliance, and business development.
The Director also evaluates new contracting opportunities, develops pricing packages and supporting materials, and helps determine the resources necessary to successfully pursue and perform new work. The ideal candidate brings progressive leadership experience in government contracting, commercial services, operations management, or a related field and is comfortable balancing day-to-day operational needs with long-term contract and business development priorities.
What You'll Do
• Provide leadership and oversight for assigned government contracts, ensuring compliance with Statements of Work (SOWs), specifications, performance requirements, and customer expectations.
• Serve as a VersAbility representative with government customers and provide technical and operational support for assigned contracts.
• Lead operations through Project Managers and other assigned personnel, including performance management, training, workload allocation, employee development, and problem resolution.
• Evaluate contract operations, quality, workforce needs, facilities, and equipment to support safe, efficient, and effective service delivery.
• Monitor government contracting opportunities and evaluate potential projects for operational feasibility and organizational fit.
• Develop pricing packages for new opportunities and follow-on contract years, including labor estimates, equipment, materials, technical exhibits, schedules, and subcontractor considerations.
• Review contract modifications and coordinate applicable information with internal stakeholders and subcontractors.
• Develop and improve operational policies, procedures, systems, and work instructions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and reporting requirements, including Department of Labor, OSHA, and AbilityOne requirements.
• Support employee and union relations in partnership with Human Resources.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with government customers, contracting personnel, subcontractors, employees, community partners, and organizational leadership.
• Analyze operational, financial, quality, workforce, and contract performance information to support sound business decisions.
• Serve as backup to the Vice President of Government Contracts & Operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in government contracting, commercial services, operations management, or a related field, including a proven record of leading teams across multiple locations.
• Advanced knowledge of government contract operations, contract administration, and performance requirements.
• Knowledge of federal contracting principles, Statements of Work (SOWs), contract modifications, and contractual performance requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership and people-management skills, including coaching, performance management, delegation, employee development, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to oversee multiple contracts, programs, locations, and competing priorities.
• Strong analytical, strategic planning, decision-making, project-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional proposals, reports, presentations, procedures, and other business documents.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to use contract management, reporting, communication, and other required technology.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• REAL ID or other federally accepted identification for access to applicable government installations.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) credentials and authorization for applicable military installations.
• Ability to travel locally and out of state approximately 25% of the time, including occasional overnight travel.
Preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field.
• Knowledge of or experience with the AbilityOne Program and/or SourceAmerica.
• Experience supporting or managing federal government contracts and working with individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance when required to support business or contract needs. VersAbility Resources will sponsor and pay applicable costs associated with obtaining the clearance when required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position works across a combination of professional office, government installation, customer, and operational environments. Regular interaction is required with employees, organizational leadership, government customers, subcontractors, and other external stakeholders.
Approximately 25% local and out-of-state travel is required for contract locations, customer meetings, site visits, conferences, business development activities, and other organizational needs. Travel may include driving, commercial air travel, and occasional overnight stays.
Site visits may include commercial kitchens, food service operations, manufacturing and production areas, warehouses, grounds maintenance locations, military installations, piers, and U.S. Navy ships. Depending on the location, employees may encounter outdoor weather, heat and humidity, noise, moving equipment, industrial machinery, vehicles, and uneven walking surfaces.
The position is primarily sedentary when performing office responsibilities but also requires the ability to stand and walk during site visits and safely navigate stairs, ramps, gangways, ship passageways, uneven surfaces, and other access routes. Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching may be required.
Candidates must be able to perform the essential duties and physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. VersAbility Resources provides reasonable accommodations in accordance with applicable law.
Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position, Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
