About the Role

Datamax is seeking a detail-oriented Shop / Setup Technician to prepare, configure, test, refurbish, and stage copier and printer equipment before customer delivery. This position plays a critical role in ensuring every machine arrives fully operational, professionally configured, and ready for installation. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in copier repair, printer service, IT support, electronics repair, field service, or equipment maintenance.

What You'll Do

Equipment Preparation & Configuration

  • Assemble and configure new and refurbished copiers, printers, and multifunction devices.
  • Install accessories, paper trays, finishers, memory upgrades, and optional features.
  • Update firmware and apply company configuration standards.
  • Verify serial numbers, meter readings, and equipment specifications.
  • Prepare equipment for customer deployment.

Network & Software Setup

  • Configure network-connected printers and multifunction devices.
  • Assign IP addresses and configure TCP/IP settings.
  • Install print drivers and scanning applications.
  • Configure scan-to-email, scan-to-folder, and network printing features.
  • Set up remote monitoring and fleet management software.

Quality Control & Testing

  • Perform comprehensive equipment testing before delivery.
  • Verify copy, print, scan, fax, and finishing functionality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve setup, software, or mechanical issues.
  • Ensure all equipment meets company quality standards.

Refurbishment & Maintenance

  • Clean and restore off-lease and used equipment.
  • Replace maintenance items and consumable components.
  • Evaluate equipment condition and identify repair needs.
  • Prepare devices for resale, redeployment, or customer delivery.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate setup records and documentation.
  • Track equipment status, configurations, and inventory.
  • Complete service and inspection reports as required.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
    • Copier or printer service
    • Managed print services
    • IT support
    • Electronics repair
    • Technical field service
    • Equipment maintenance
  • Basic understanding of computer networking, including:
    • TCP/IP
    • Static IP addressing
    • Printer and driver installation
    • Network connectivity troubleshooting
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to read and follow technical documentation.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Canon, Ricoh, Sharp, Xerox, Kyocera, Konica Minolta, HP, Lexmark, or Toshiba equipment.
  • Experience configuring multifunction printers and network printing environments.
  • Technical school training in electronics, networking, IT, or related fields.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certifications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 environments.
