Position Summary

This job description is intended to convey information important to the scope of this position and it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with the position.

The Employee Lodge Cook is responsible for preparing meals for employees living and working on the mountain while helping maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming lodge environment. Responsibilities include preparing breakfasts, to-golunches, and dinners, assisting with inventory and deliveries, completing cleaning and routine maintenance tasks, and supporting safe and efficient kitchen operations while providing considerate and respectful service to fellow employees.

This position requires living on-site in shared dorm-style housing during the operating season and working with a small teamin a remote mountain environment. Successful employees are dependable, adaptable, self-motivated, and comfortable balancing kitchen operations, cleanliness, and daily operational responsibilities with limited direct supervision. Employees in this role are expected to maintain familiarity with ski area operations, safe food handling practices, and company policies while contributing to a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Additionally employees in this position are expected to work split shifts outside of normal business/operational hours and on holidays.

General Responsibilities:

  • Prepare breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for employees of Mt. Baker Ski Area in an efficient, healthy, and considerate manner
  • Help facilitate and participate in a positive and inclusive workplace
  • Help monitor inventory and assist on delivery days
  • Complete cleaning and routine maintenance tasks as trained
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and associated work areas
  • Perform duties as trained without direct supervision
  • Develop a working knowledge of Mt. Baker Ski Area Mountain Policies and daily operating procedures, Mt. Baker Ski Area facilities and services offered and safe food handling practices and management

Wage & Hour Information:

  • Starting rate begins at $18.63/hour with increases for experience, merit, tenure and future WA State minimum wage adjustments possible.
  • This is a seasonal, variable hour position. Hours per week may vary between 5-40+ hours/week. Expected end date for position is April 18, 2027, unless otherwise approved by management.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Have or obtain upon employment a CPR and AED certification (preferred)
  • Ability to pass background screening with results acceptable to Mt. Baker Ski Area
  • Have or obtain upon employment a current Washington State Food Handler’s certification
  • Previous kitchen experience required
  • Adaptable, resilient, clear communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and share responsibilities for all tasks within the kitchen
  • Able to work as an individual or as a team with minimal supervision

On-Mountain Dorm Living (Required for this Position)

  • You must remain on site the night before and between each shift
  • Dormitory-style housing accommodations are provided at no additional cost. See Housing Agreements for more information regarding rules and policies.

General Physical Requirements

  • Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds (or more depending on task)
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods
  • Climbing and descending stairs
  • Shoveling and moving snow
  • Standing and walking on compact snow and ice
  • Perform repetitive tasks as necessary
