ABOUT THE POSITION:
Remember when you were a kid watching the TV shows with the large magnet or grapple attached to a crane that could pick up piles of scrap metal, a car, or even a bus and you thought that was amazing? Well, that is part of this job! The Equipment Operator is responsible for learning all aspects of the material handler (excavator) operation, front end loader and other equipment to safely move material throughout our yard including inspection, and routine maintenance. Also required is the ability to read, write, and regular and reliable attendance.

ABOUT YOU:
Previous experience operating any material handling equipment is beneficial but not required. Willingness to be teachable and trainable in the safe operation of our equipment. Must be reliable, trustworthy and a team player.
MORE DETAILS:
- Perform equipment safety check according to checklist.
- Check all equipment fluid for proper levels and back-up alarm for proper operating condition. Add fluid as needed.
- Perform lubrication and other daily service activities according to procedures.
- Start equipment and check gauges for proper operating status.
- Operate Heavy Equipment to load/ unload trucks and rail cars, and feed scrap processing equipment, according to company and safety procedures.
- Move and load rail cars with scrap material as directed.
- Follow shut down procedures at end of shift according to daily checklist.
- Complete daily equipment inspections.
- Follow and comply with all safety and work regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS TAUGHT AFTER HIRE:
- Education of the scrap industry and workplace environment.
- Company and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of scrap, both ferrous and/ or nonferrous.
- Basic maintenance and operation of equipment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Prior Experience operating equipment is beneficial but not required, including but not limited to – forklift, tractor, skid steer etc.
- History of reliable attendance.
Job Seekers with a background as an Equipment Operator, Forklift Driver, Loader Operator, Excavator, or Agriculture typically do well in this position.
Wage: $24.00-$30.00 Based on experience.
