This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a SBA Senior Portfolio Manager based in United States.
This role is responsible for managing a diverse SBA lending portfolio with a strong focus on credit quality, profitability, compliance, and sustainable growth.
You will combine advanced financial analysis, underwriting expertise, and portfolio management skills to support sound lending decisions.
The position offers significant exposure to SBA lending, client relationships, loan renewals, and risk mitigation.
You will assess financial performance, identify early warning signals, and develop effective strategies for managing emerging credit risks.
The role also provides opportunities to collaborate closely with bankers, clients, servicing teams, and special assets professionals.
As a senior member of the team, you will contribute to complex credit decisions while mentoring colleagues and supporting broader portfolio initiatives.
Success in this position requires strong judgment, organization, communication, and a proactive approach to managing both risk and client needs.
- Review loan documentation and spread, analyze, and interpret business and personal financial statements, cash flow information, and other relevant financial data.
- Assess the strengths, weaknesses, risks, and mitigating factors associated with individual credit and servicing requests, providing clear recommendations to address identified risks.
- Prepare and present comprehensive credit analysis packages through the appropriate credit approval process with limited supervision.
- Serve as a secondary point of contact for client relationships associated with loans within the organization's branch footprint.
- Evaluate and make timely decisions on SBA Express Line of Credit renewal requests.
- Proactively manage past-due accounts and take appropriate action to minimize late payments and potential portfolio losses.
- Monitor the loan portfolio for red flags, early warning indicators, and other signals of potential problem loans.
- Review loans approaching maturity and collaborate with clients and bankers to collect the financial and operational information required to make informed renewal decisions.
- Work with clients, bankers, and Special Assets Officers to develop appropriate action plans when SBA loans are downgraded or show signs of deterioration.
- Assist with preparation of the initial Credit Action Report (CAR) when a loan is transitioning to the Special Assets function.
- Complete annual reviews of borrowing relationships in accordance with established SBA loan monitoring procedures.
- Mentor SBA servicing portfolio specialists and other servicing team members, sharing knowledge and supporting professional development.
- Contribute to special projects and other portfolio initiatives as assigned.
- Maintain compliance with applicable SBA programs, lending policies, credit requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, combined with approximately 7–10 years of experience in financial analysis, loan structuring, underwriting, problem solving, and/or portfolio management.
- 3–5 years of experience in SBA lending administration or a closely related SBA lending environment.
- Strong knowledge of SBA loan programs, applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), credit policies, and related lending regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of decisions, maintain accountability, and exercise sound credit judgment within established guidelines.
- Strong ability to analyze business and personal financial statements, cash flow, and other financial information and translate findings into appropriate lending recommendations.
- Experience using financial spreading and credit analysis tools such as Moody’s or Baker Hill.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, time management, prioritization, and ability to manage multiple requests simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present credit analysis and recommendations to both individuals and groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive working relationships with clients, bankers, servicing professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Proactive approach to identifying risks, resolving issues, and managing portfolio performance.
- Proficiency with relevant banking and lending technologies, including 360 View, Navigator, Director, nCino, and Statement Analyzer.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends when business needs require.
- Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.
- Successful completion of required background and credit checks.
- Annual salary range of $88,074–$102,418 USD.
- Full-time, exempt position.
