This part-time, remote position supports journalists seeking expert sources through a science-focused matching service.
You’ll monitor incoming requests, respond quickly, and help reporters connect with relevant scientific experts.
The role is ideal for someone familiar with journalism or media relations who can communicate clearly under tight deadlines.
You’ll collaborate closely with an expert-matching team to resolve inquiries and maintain smooth coverage across shifts.
Strong judgment, attention to detail, and concise communication will be essential to delivering responsive journalist support.
With flexible scheduling of up to 17 hours per week, the position can complement freelance journalism or other professional commitments.
The initial engagement is expected to run from November 1, 2026, through May 31, 2028.
- Monitor incoming journalist inquiries during assigned duty hours and provide rapid, clear responses in accordance with established service policies, procedures, and scope.
- Coordinate with scientist-facing team members to follow up on requests, resolve inquiries, and ensure journalists receive appropriate support.
- Record relevant journalist inquiry information accurately in the Salesforce database.
- Communicate with the broader inbox team to ensure consistent and seamless operations across different shifts.
- Identify unusual, sensitive, or challenging correspondence and escalate questions to appropriate team members when needed.
- Apply sound judgment and attention to detail when handling time-sensitive journalist requests.
- Some professional experience in journalism or media relations, or demonstrated familiarity with journalism terminology, practices, and professional standards.
- Excellent ability to communicate quickly, concisely, and clearly in written and verbal interactions.
- Strong decision-making and prioritization skills, particularly when working under tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records while managing multiple inquiries.
- Interest in, experience with, or enthusiasm for science is highly desirable.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative environment and coordinate smoothly with colleagues across shifts.
- Must be located in, or willing to relocate to, an approved U.S. state where the organization has a business presence.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
