Job Summary
Management Solutions is seeking an experienced Safety Analysis Engineer to join our growing Nuclear Engineering practice. This client-facing consulting position supports DOE NNSA and other federal nuclear programs through performance of nuclear facility safety analyses and development of safety basis documentation for existing facilities, facility modifications, and modernization projects.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform safety analyses and develop Safety Basis documentation for DOE Hazard Category 2 and 3 nuclear facilities, including hazardous material identification documents, hazard identification and screening documents, hazard evaluation studies, structures, systems, and components (SSC) analyses, system design descriptions, hazard evaluation reports, Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), safety analysis reports, and Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs).
· Perform and document hazard analyses supporting facility operations, modifications, new projects, and facility modernization efforts.
· Evaluate safety-significant and safety-class structures, systems, and components and support development of associated functional requirements and system descriptions.
· Apply 10 CFR 830 Subpart B, applicable DOE Orders, DOE Standards, DOE handbooks, and client procedures in the development and review of nuclear safety analyses and documentation.
· Support Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) screenings, determinations, evaluations, and associated documentation.
· Review engineering designs, work packages, procedures, and proposed changes for consistency with approved Safety Basis requirements and assumptions.
· Prepare clear, technically defensible analysis documentation; participate in technical reviews and provide peer review and technical guidance to project teams.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited program in Engineering, or a related technical degree such as Physics or Chemistry.
· Minimum of eight years of relevant DOE nuclear safety, safety analysis, or safety basis experience.
· Experience performing hazard analyses and accident analyses and preparing nuclear facility Safety Basis documentation such as DSAs, TSRs, hazard evaluation reports, SSC analyses, or system design descriptions.
· Working knowledge of 10 CFR 830 Subpart B and applicable DOE nuclear safety requirements and guidance.
· Strong analytical, technical writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Active DOE Q clearance.
Preferred Experience
· Experience supporting ORNL, Y-12 or other DOE/NNSA nuclear facilities, including facility modernization projects.
· Experience applying DOE-STD-1189, DOE-STD-3009, DOE-STD-1027, and DOE-HDBK-3010 or successor/current applicable standards and guidance.
· Experience with hazard evaluation methods and USQ Determination activities
Work Authorization
U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contracting and potential security requirements.
