The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) is responsible for completing a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the HR department. The HRG will work with the HR team to provide continuity and efficiency in processing department requests, document management, and compliance in multiple functions across Human Resources. All HR staff are empowered to provide excellent customer service to all Science Center team members, current and future and encouraged to work collaboratively across all museum departments to achieve and uphold organizational mission, vision, and goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead full-cycle HR support across the employee lifecycle processes including onboarding, employment status changes, offboarding, ensuring consistent and effective transitions.
  • In partnership with the Human Resources Business Partner/ HRIS Administrator conducts new hire orientation to support the Science Center’s great place to work initiative and ensure new hires have the tools they need to efficiently integrate into the organization.
  • Coordinates HR calendar of events, i.e., Open Enrollment, Training, and Performance Management.
  • Administer employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, disability, and other benefit offerings. In partnership with the HR Director, coordinates open enrollment and wellness activities and communications.
  • Assist in the communication and consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and programs, acting as a partner to all people managers to ensure compliance and understanding of policies.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for employees, providing guidance and support on a wide range of HR-related matters and knowing when to escalate.
  • Administer leave of absence forms with care and compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Review and process organizational timesheets every other payroll cycle in coordination with the HRBP Talent/ HRIS Administrator.
  • Coordinate organizational wide training and development initiatives.
  • Assist with additional HR and administrative duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience; bachelor’s degree and/or HR certification is preferred (SHRM-CP or PHR).
  • Experience with HR systems in a nonprofit and/or museum field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Paylocity or a closely related HRIS is highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with tact, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to act confidentially.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The duties of this position are performed in a typical shared office environment. May be required to work some weekends and/or holidays.
