Job Description

Speech Pathologist

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Speech Pathologist evaluates and plans treatment programs for speech/language and/or cognitive deficits for patients in a hospital setting; provides counseling and guidance to patients regarding their communication skills.

Location: 3425 S Clarkson St, Englewood, CO 80113

Shift: PRN; mainly need coverage for absences, the bookend days of the holiday's ( we do not hold patient appointments on the actual holiday).

Compensation: Non-Exempt; $40.71- $58.63; plus 18% PRN differential

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations:

    • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech/Language Pathology from the American Speech/Language Hearing Association; required

    • BLS from the American Heart Association; required.

  • Education:

    • Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology; required

  • Experience:

    • Hospital setting; preferred.

  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Operates the following equipment: Audiometer,Tape recorder,Computer, Telephone, Video equipment, Suction machine, Copy machine
  • Performs basic wheelchair handling skills.

  • Determine time, place, and sequence of operations or action to be taken on the basis of analysis of data; executing determinations and/or reporting on events.

  • Deal with individuals in terms of their total personality in order to advise, counsel, and/or guide them with regard to problems that may be resolved by clinical or other professional principles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Selects, administers, scores and interprets diagnostic tests to evaluate speech/language/cognitive skills.

  2. Sets short term and long term treatment goals.

  3. Designs and implements individualized treatment plan, including number of treatments and length of time needed to achieve goals.

  4. Communicates with treatment team regarding evaluation results, treatment program, and goals.

  5. Participates with treatment team in discharge planning.

  6. Conducts group treatment sessions.

  7. Completes required medical records documentation.

  8. Educates family and patient regarding evaluation results, treatment program and goals.

  9. Provides services to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and adapts the plan of care as needed.

  10. Follows hospital infection control policies, including body substance isolation and proper hand hygiene before and after contact with patients, handling of food, and after hands are contaminated with any body fluids, secretions or excretions.

  11. Understands his/her responsibility to inform patients, family and visitors of the importance of hand hygiene in all environments.
