Job Description

Job Summary

The Administrative Director of Cardiac Services provides leadership and oversight for cardiac procedural areas, including University Medical Center and El Paso Children’s Hospital Cath Labs, as well as related cardiac programs. Ensures high‑quality cardiovascular care, operational excellence, and alignment with organizational goals.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

Five years of progressive nursing leadership experience in acute care, Cath Lab, Electrophysiology, or CVICU.

License/Registration/Certification:

Current RN license from the Texas State Board of Nursing Examiners required.

Current BLS certification required.

Nursing Executive Leadership certification highly preferred within two years of hire.

Education and Training:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.

Master’s degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.

Skills:

  1. Expert understanding of Cath Lab, Electrophysiology, Structural Heart, Heart Failure, CVICU, and cardiac surgery standards, workflows, and evidence‑based guidelines.
  2. Deep knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, AAMI, and state/federal requirements, with the ability to maintain continuous readiness and compliance.
  3. Ability to lead PI initiatives, interpret outcomes data, conduct root‑cause analysis, and drive measurable improvements in cardiac care.
  4. Proficiency with NCDR, ACC, STS, and other registries, using data to benchmark performance and guide operational and clinical decisions.
  5. Ability to design, implement, and evaluate strategic plans, expand cardiac programs, and support long‑term service‑line growth.
  6. Skill in managing workflow, throughput, staffing, and resource allocation in fast‑paced, high‑risk cardiac procedural environments.
  7. Competence in budgeting, cost control, capital planning, business plan development, and evaluating new technologies.
  8. Strong ability to build effective relationships with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesia, and multidisciplinary teams.
  9. Ability to lead teams, promote accountability, resolve conflict, and develop staff competencies and professional growth.
  10. Strong communication skills with the ability to convey data, influence decisions, and promote a patient‑centered, service‑oriented culture.
