Manager, Software Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering based in Canada.

Accountabilities:

The Manager, Software Engineering will lead engineering teams by providing technical direction, people leadership, and operational guidance to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality software solutions. This role requires balancing strategic planning, team development, technical excellence, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and respectful environment.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance support through regular one-on-one meetings and team engagement practices.
  • Drive strategic planning initiatives by balancing business priorities, technical investments, resource allocation, and technical debt management.
  • Partner with product and design teams to define roadmaps, prioritize backlogs, and deliver customer-focused solutions.
  • Promote engineering best practices, improving code quality, architecture, development processes, and overall technical excellence.
  • Support teams in resolving complex technical challenges by encouraging structured problem-solving and effective decision-making.
  • Facilitate communication across teams, manage conflicts, and build strong relationships with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement through experimentation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of modern technologies.
  • Ensure successful delivery of software products across multiple platforms, including web and mobile environments.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with a strong software development background and a proven ability to build successful teams. You should combine technical depth, leadership capabilities, and strong communication skills to navigate complex product and engineering challenges.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of industry experience building and delivering software products.
  • Proven experience managing software engineering teams and developing engineering talent.
  • Strong track record of leading teams through complex technical challenges and delivering scalable solutions.
  • Experience shipping web and mobile products in a production environment.
  • Previous hands-on software engineering experience, with knowledge of technologies such as Java and/or React preferred.
  • Ability to break down complex business problems into clear technical strategies and actionable plans.
  • Strong understanding of software development practices, architecture, and engineering processes.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams, influence stakeholders, and create a culture of accountability and growth.
