Executive Director, Innovation & Transformation

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Executive Director, Innovation & Transformation based in the United States.

You will lead enterprise-level transformation efforts focused on modernizing clinical operations across a global R&D organization, with a strong emphasis on AI-enabled innovation, operational excellence, and scalable execution models.
This role sits at the intersection of strategy, technology adoption, and large-scale program management within a highly regulated life sciences environment.
You will drive the execution of major transformation initiatives that improve the speed, quality, and efficiency of clinical trial delivery worldwide.
Your work will directly influence how digital capabilities, automation, and advanced analytics are embedded into core clinical development processes.
You will oversee governance, portfolio management, and cross-functional alignment across multiple enterprise stakeholders and global teams.
This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping operating models, leading PMO functions, and delivering measurable transformation outcomes.
You will also build and lead teams while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the execution of enterprise-wide innovation and transformation strategies across clinical operations, including modernization of processes, workflows, and operating models.
  • Oversee the implementation of strategic initiatives such as ACT FAST, ensuring alignment across global development, technology, AI, and R&D stakeholders.
  • Drive adoption of AI, automation, and digital capabilities to improve clinical trial efficiency, scalability, and decision-making quality.
  • Establish and manage Program Management Office (PMO) frameworks supporting portfolio governance, prioritization, tracking, and delivery execution.
  • Coordinate cross-functional transformation programs, ensuring alignment of timelines, budgets, dependencies, and strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate executive governance forums, supporting decision-making, progress tracking, and strategic communication across leadership teams.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives and capability-building efforts to support long-term transformation and operational excellence.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate emerging technologies and support innovation opportunities, including potential integrations and partnerships.
Requirements:
  • 12+ years of experience (Bachelor’s equivalent or higher) in clinical operations, program management, transformation, or related biopharmaceutical functions.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large-scale enterprise transformation initiatives within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong background in clinical development or clinical operations, ideally within the biopharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
  • Experience establishing or leading PMO functions, including governance, portfolio tracking, and execution oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement AI, digital, automation, or advanced analytics solutions in regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of clinical trial processes, operational workflows, and industry transformation trends.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across global and cross-functional teams.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities and experience driving measurable business and operational outcomes.
  • Experience in organizational change management, operating model design, and enterprise capability building is highly desirable.
