As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Director of Accounting & Tax (CPA Required) to serve as the senior accounting leader for For Purpose Accounting.
This is a player-coach role that combines direct client service, technical accounting leadership, team development, and practice growth. You will maintain your own portfolio of nonprofit clients while overseeing the delivery of accounting, tax, compliance, and advisory services across the broader client base.
As a member of the FPA leadership team, you will work closely with firm leadership to help guide the growth and success of the Accounting & Tax practice. Over time, this role is expected to take increasing ownership of the practice's client service delivery, team leadership, and strategic direction.
This position is focused on leading the Accounting & Tax practice and supporting nonprofit clients. While you will play a significant role in the future growth of the practice, you will do so as part of a collaborative leadership team that includes dedicated leaders overseeing operations, finance, technology, and other business functions.

This is a full-time position based in our Laramie, Wyoming office (Remote U.S. Candidates considered).

Requirements: QualificationsRequired
- Active CPA license.
- Minimum 5 years of nonprofit accounting, tax, audit, or compliance experience.
- Prior leadership or management experience.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and IRS regulations.
- Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to translate complex financial concepts into practical guidance for nonprofit leaders.
- Experience leading a professional services team or practice area.
- Experience serving multiple nonprofit clients simultaneously.
- Experience developing or improving operational systems and processes.
- Familiarity with advisory-focused accounting services.
- Passion for serving mission-driven organizations.
Client Service & Technical Leadership
- Serve as the lead advisor for a portfolio of nonprofit accounting and tax clients.
- Oversee the delivery of accounting, tax, compliance, and advisory services across the Accounting & Tax practice.
- Review and oversee preparation of Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, and related nonprofit filings.
- Provide guidance on nonprofit accounting, compliance, reporting, and financial best practices.
- Ensure high-quality service delivery and exceptional client experiences.
- Mentor, support, and develop accounting team members.
- Provide technical guidance and quality oversight.
- Help establish and maintain service standards and best practices.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and team development efforts as the practice grows.
- Partner with firm leadership to support the continued growth and success of the Accounting & Tax practice.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and service delivery.
- Support strategic planning and long-term practice development.
- Collaborate with attorneys and other professionals to provide integrated nonprofit solutions.
- Represent FPA as a trusted resource within the nonprofit community.

The Director of Accounting & Tax serves as a technical leader, trusted advisor, and mentor, helping ensure both clients and team members are supported at a high level. They contribute to a culture of excellence, strengthen service delivery, and help develop the systems and processes needed to support continued growth.
