Job Description

Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Platform)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Platform) based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to build and evolve the platform foundation behind intelligent transportation and logistics technology.
You will design and scale backend systems, infrastructure, and developer tooling that enable engineering teams to deliver products quickly and reliably.
Your work will have broad impact across engineering teams and customer deployments, making this a high-leverage technical position.
You will work across platform architecture, cloud infrastructure, developer experience, security, observability, and automation.
Using technologies such as Python, AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and event-driven architectures, you will solve complex technical challenges at scale.
You will also influence architectural standards, establish engineering best practices, and mentor engineers across teams.
This is an opportunity to combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership in a fast-growing environment where reliability, security, and velocity are equally important.

Accountabilities
  • Design, implement, and scale core platform infrastructure and backend systems with a strong focus on reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Build and improve developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and engineering workflows to enhance developer experience and reduce operational friction.
  • Establish and promote platform engineering best practices, architectural standards, and scalable approaches across engineering teams.
  • Implement security-by-design principles and operationalize security and compliance controls without unnecessarily slowing product development.
  • Manage and improve cloud infrastructure, observability, monitoring, incident response, and operational processes.
  • Work closely with engineering and product leaders to balance delivery speed, cost, resilience, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional technical initiatives that improve the overall engineering platform and development lifecycle.
  • Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance, and help raise engineering standards across teams.
  • Improve monorepo development workflows, tooling, and automation to support efficient engineering at scale.
  • Contribute hands-on to new challenges and evolving priorities within a dynamic, high-growth technology environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in infrastructure and platform engineering.
  • Proven experience designing and scaling cloud-native systems, preferably in production environments.
  • Strong expertise in Python 3 and AWS.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Spacelift, or CloudFormation.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and technologies such as Kafka or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of relational and distributed databases, including PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MySQL, SQL Server, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, incident response, and production operations.
  • Demonstrated success improving developer experience through better tooling, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and engineering workflows.
  • Experience improving monorepo development workflows using technologies such as Bazel, Buck, or Pants.
  • Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, with the ability to translate requirements into practical engineering controls.
  • Experience leading security initiatives, including environment hardening and secure-by-default development or deployment practices.
  • Strong technical leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and product functions.
  • Experience with transportation systems such as TMS or ELD, or with scientific and analytics applications, is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with modern data technologies such as dbt and DuckDB is a plus.
Benefits
  • Compensation of $180,000–$220,000 in on-target earnings.
  • Series C-level equity participation.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance fully covered for employees and 50% covered for dependents.
  • Life insurance, with optional supplemental coverage.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • Health Savings Account (HSA).
  • 401(k) plan with employer match.
  • Unlimited paid time off covering vacation, personal days, sick days, jury duty, military leave, and bereavement.
  • 11 paid holidays.
  • Paid parental leave available to all employees.
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.
  • Fitness membership reimbursement.
  • Commuter benefits.
  • Flexible working environment with the option to work remotely across the United States.
