Description:

Portland Yacht Services is seeking a Marine Systems & Mechanical Technician to join our Systems Shop.

Our Systems Shop handles the complex mechanical and onboard systems found aboard recreational and commercial vessels, including inboard engines, marine electrical systems, plumbing and waste systems, HVAC, and related onboard equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service, and repair inboard marine engines
  • Perform routine engine and mechanical maintenance
  • Troubleshoot engine-related components and equipment
  • Diagnose and repair marine electrical systems
  • Work with 12V and 24V DC electrical systems
  • Diagnose and service AC shore-power and onboard electrical systems
  • Install and service batteries, charging systems, inverters, and related equipment
  • Diagnose, repair, and install freshwater and plumbing systems
  • Service marine sanitation and waste systems
  • Diagnose, repair, and install marine HVAC systems
  • Service pumps, hoses, valves, and related onboard equipment
  • Install new marine equipment and systems
  • Troubleshoot complex onboard system problems
  • Perform seasonal commissioning and decommissioning
  • Read wiring diagrams, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation
  • Accurately document work performed, parts used, and recommended repairs

Requirements:

Previous marine systems or inboard mechanical experience is preferred. Candidates with applicable diesel, automotive, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or other technical trades experience are also encouraged to apply.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
  • Experience using appropriate tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship

Marine-industry experience, ABYC certifications, and manufacturer training are a plus.
