Classification: Full-Time

Shift: Various – must be available to weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Union Position: This position is part of the Local 1 Union which requires complete open availability. We are not able to accommodate schedule restrictions and full-time hours are not guaranteed. Hours and schedule are based on seniority and business needs.

Job Summary

The Houseperson supports the housekeeping team by maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that common areas, hallways, restrooms, and designated workspaces remain clean, safe, and well-stocked. The Houseman assists with cleaning tasks, responding to housekeeping needs, transporting linens, and supporting special projects as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of public areas, including hallways, lobbies, restrooms, lounges, staff areas, housekeeping closets and other assigned spaces.
  • Assist room attendants by delivering supplies, removing trash, and replenishing carts as needed.
  • Collect, transport, and distribute clean and soiled linens.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and wiping surfaces.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for meetings, events, or facility needs.
  • Clean, maintain and store cleaning equipment
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or broken equipment to the appropriate department.
  • Follow established cleaning procedures and adhere to safety and infection-control guidelines.
  • Support deep-cleaning projects and seasonal tasks as assigned.
  • Select appropriate cleaning chemicals and necessary personal protective equipment for various surfaces and cleaning jobs, following OSHA regulations and hotel policies.
Requirements

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace for written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.
  • Must be able to speak to guests and co-workers using clear, appropriate and professional language
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to operate housekeeping tools and equipment (e.g., carts, vacuums, buffers—if applicable).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking, standing, twisting, pulling, bending, lifting, and carrying items up to 30–55 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull housekeeping carts and equipment.
  • Occasional climbing of ladders or step stools.
  • Ability to be on feet for extended periods.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions and tasks requiring manual dexterity.

In accordance with the Illinois Pay Transparency Act, the expected compensation and benefits for this position are as follows:

Pay:
$19.88 - $26.50 per hour. This position has a fixed starting rate established by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

AVAILABILITY

This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. At times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed work day, to include Holidays, or time of work if business or task assignments demand. In addition, it should be understood that business needs determines the amount of hours that you work.
