However, we have much more to accomplish for our customers, and we're looking for a culturally aligned Senior Data Engineer to join in our Information Technology Services team at our Markham headquarters. Overview:
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our growing Data & Technology team. This role will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling modern data platforms and pipelines that support business intelligence, analytics, AI initiatives, and operational decision-making across the organization.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with business acumen and enjoys solving complex data challenges in a fast-paced environment.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams including IT, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, and Leadership to transform data into a strategic asset for the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data workflows Build and optimize enterprise data warehouse and lakehouse architectures Integrate data from ERP, CRM, eCommerce, WMS, POS, and third-party systems Ensure high standards for data quality, governance, reliability, and security Develop real-time and batch processing pipelines for operational and analytical use cases Support business intelligence and analytics initiatives by enabling clean, trusted, and accessible datasets Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements Optimize database performance, query efficiency, and cloud infrastructure costs Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for data platforms Drive best practices in data engineering, architecture, documentation, and DevOps/DataOps Mentor junior team members and contribute to the growth of the data engineering function Support AI and machine learning initiatives by building scalable data foundations
Qualifications and Skills:
Must-have:
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles Strong proficiency in SQL and Python Experience building scalable data pipelines using modern orchestration tools (e.g., dbt) Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms such as BigQuery and Azure Fabric Experience with cloud platforms including Azure or GCP Strong understanding of data modeling, warehousing, and dimensional design Experience integrating APIs, streaming data, and third-party SaaS platforms Knowledge of CI/CD, Git, infrastructure-as-code, and modern engineering practices Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Have:
- Experience supporting AI/ML workloads and feature engineering pipelines Experience with Power BI, or modern BI platforms Knowledge of retail, distribution, supply chain, or consumer goods industries Familiarity with real-time analytics and event-driven architectures Experience with MDM, data governance, and data catalog solutions
