About the Role:
The PRN Pharmacist plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications within healthcare settings on an as-needed basis. This position involves providing expert pharmaceutical care, including reviewing prescriptions, counseling patients, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy. The pharmacist will be responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies while adapting to varying work environments and schedules. By delivering high-quality pharmaceutical services, the PRN Pharmacist contributes to improved patient outcomes and supports the overall healthcare team. Flexibility and strong clinical knowledge are essential to meet the dynamic demands of this role across different healthcare facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensed pharmacist in the United States with an active and unrestricted license.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and pharmaceutical calculations.
- Experience in a clinical or hospital pharmacy setting.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to variable schedules and work environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working as a PRN or per diem pharmacist.
- Certification in a specialized area such as oncology, infectious diseases, or ambulatory care.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy management software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Continuing education or professional development in emerging pharmaceutical therapies and technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Review and verify medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and potential drug interactions.
- Provide patient counseling on medication usage, side effects, and storage.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective medication therapy plans.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations regarding pharmacy practice.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all pharmaceutical care activities.
- Participate in medication inventory management and ensure proper storage and handling of pharmaceuticals.
- Stay current with new medications, clinical guidelines, and pharmacy best practices to provide evidence-based care.

The required and preferred skills enable the PRN Pharmacist to deliver comprehensive pharmaceutical care efficiently and safely. Clinical knowledge and pharmacology expertise are applied daily to assess medication orders and prevent adverse drug events.
