Job Description
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of the Hyperbaric Medicine Department, the Hyperbaric Medical Nurse / Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patient as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician. Operates and maintains the hyperbaric chamber(s) and associated systems and equipment. Assists in the delivery of patient care appropriate to the level of his/her medical training. In addition to the above duties nurses will be expected to, coordinate patient treatments into the total nursing care plan for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
Qualifications
Education
- Required
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited program of nursing
- Associate’s degree in Nursing
- 40 credit hour UHMS approved Hyperbaric Medicine Introductory Course
- Will be provided by dept. if individual does not already have
- Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
Experience:
- Preferred
- Two years of experience in Nursing
Certification/Licensure:
- Required
- Registered Nurse (RN), with authorization to practice in the State of Texas
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Must obtain within ninety (90) days of start date
- Certification in Hyperbaric from organization recognized by the Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS)
- required within 1 year
- Preferred
- Certification in a Nursing Specialty Area, by an organization recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing
