Responsibilities
- Manage an engineering team that supports new product development and product sustaining activities across the MSA global product portfolio.
- Direct the day-to-day activities of electrical engineers and technicians to accomplish goals and objectives.
- Allocate resources to effectively execute project tasks according to established portfolio priorities and business needs.
- Be responsible and accountable for the quality of work output. Ensure that customer requirements are identified and met.
- Provide timely coaching and feedback to help associates strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
- Use appropriate methods and a flexible interpersonal style to help build a cohesive team.
- Plan and support the development of individuals’ skills and abilities so that they can fulfill current or future job/role responsibilities more effectively.
- Monitor and enforce New Product Development process discipline to support project teams in meeting project schedules, budgets, and customer requirements, while managing technical risks.
- Think strategically about the organization structure, day to day functions of the team, and preparing for future growth.
- Conduct succession planning, including the identification of needed skillsets to expand internal capabilities and build technical leadership within MSA.
Qualifications
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Proven ability to manage and lead technical teams.
- Strong focus on customer fulfillment, both internal and external.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling collaboration with associates at all levels of MSA.
- Solid written and oral communication skills.
- Good organizational skills are necessary for success.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally for collaboration with other design centers.
Education Required:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.
Experience Required:
This position is available at two different career levels based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education:
- Level one: At least 8 years relevant experience required. At least 3 of these years should include experience in new product development/engineering project management.
- Level two: At least 10 years relevant experience required. At least 3 of these years should include experience in new product development/engineering project management. At least 2 years leading people.
- MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience; PhD may be substituted for up to 4 years.
Preferred:
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering
- Masters in Business Administration
- Experience working with global teams / global projects.
