Job Description
Drive Accuracy. Power Growth. Keep Our Operations Running Like Clockwork.
At Sprague, we don’t just manage numbers—we power decisions, scale operations, and support the teams that deliver exceptional service every day. We’re looking for an Operational Staff Accountant who thrives at the intersection of accounting, operations, and continuous improvement.
If you’re someone who loves solving puzzles, bringing clarity to complexity, and building processes that actually work—this is your opportunity to make a real impact.
What you’ll do (and why it matters)
This isn’t a “close the books and move on” kind of accounting role.
You’ll play a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of a growing portfolio of companies across pest control, fleet operations, and real estate—ensuring our data is accurate, our assets are tracked, and our business leaders have the insights they need to make smart decisions.
Your work will directly support:
- Operational readiness (vehicles, properties, assets)
- Financial reporting accuracy and compliance
- Smarter capital allocation and cost management
- Scalable systems and processes as we grow
- Review and reconcile transactions across multiple systems and entities
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account corrections
- Perform monthly balance sheet and income statement reconciliations
- Investigate discrepancies and solve root-cause issues—not just symptoms
- Maintain clean, accurate general ledger and cost center reporting
- Track and allocate asset-related costs (fleet + real estate)
- Support variance analysis and management reporting
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure financial clarity across the business
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, internal controls, and documentation standards
- Maintain accounting, asset, and lease data integrity
- Document workflows and identify automation opportunities
- Help scale processes as the business grows and evolves
- Coordinate fleet activities: procurement, upfitting, maintenance, and disposition
- Manage vehicle licensing, registration, and compliance (multi-state)
- Support lease and property documentation and administration
- Ensure assets and leases are accurately recorded and audit-ready
- Perform bank reconciliations and support cash forecasting
- Monitor cash flow and ensure compliance with financial institutions
- Prepare schedules and documentation for external accounting partners
At Sprague, we believe great work happens when people feel respected, trusted, and connected to the impact of what they do. We’re a values-driven organization with a long history of doing things the right way—for our customers, our communities, and our teammates.
You’ll be part of a collaborative culture where people take pride in their work, support one another, and genuinely enjoy solving problems together. We balance professionalism with approachability, accountability with trust, and high standards with the understanding that we’re all human.
Simply put: we care about doing good work, growing together, and celebrating a job well done.
- Competitive Salary & Benefits: $82,000-86,000 (up to $90K with CPA) to start plus annual bonus program
- Meaningful work – Your work directly supports real operations, real assets, and real people across the organization
- Stability with opportunity – Join a well-established organization that continues to invest in growth, systems, and people
- A culture of pride and appreciation – We recognize effort, celebrate wins, and value the satisfaction that comes from work done well
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, external data)
- Comfort working across accounting systems and tools (Sage, Bill.com, or similar)
- A sharp eye for detail and a passion for problem-solving
You’re someone who:
- Takes ownership and follows through—no dropped balls
- Communicates clearly, proactively, and often
- Sees inefficiencies and fixes them (not just flags them)
- Can operate independently but thrives as part of a team
- Enjoys building structure where it doesn’t yet exist
onus Points If You Have
- CPA (or working toward one)
- Experience with Sage Intacct or similar systems
- A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, can-do attitude
Pre-Hire Screening Requirements:
- Criminal Background Check: Federal, State, County
- Education & Employment Verification
- Credit Check
- 5-Panel Drug Screen
