Job Description

Senior Backend Software Engineer, DevEx

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer, DevEx in Canada.

This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering, developer experience, and platform enablement, focusing on improving how engineers build, test, and ship software at scale. You will design and deliver internal tools and infrastructure that directly enhance engineering productivity, reliability, and confidence in production systems. Working in a fully remote, fast-paced environment, you will collaborate closely with platform, product, and infrastructure teams to identify friction points and eliminate them through automation and smarter systems. A strong emphasis is placed on CI/CD optimization, cloud-native infrastructure, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. You will also help shape developer quality standards and modernize engineering practices across the organization. This is a high-impact role where your work will be felt by every engineering team through faster delivery and improved system stability.

Accountabilities

You will drive improvements across developer experience, backend tooling, and platform reliability, ensuring engineering teams can ship faster and with greater confidence:

  • Assess and enhance CI/CD pipelines, improving build speed, reliability, and quality gates such as testing, linting, and security scanning
  • Build internal developer tooling to streamline workflows, reduce friction, and improve onboarding and local development environments
  • Develop observability and engineering health dashboards to track deployment performance, test reliability, and system behavior trends
  • Design and implement automation for infrastructure and platform operations using cloud-native and Infrastructure-as-Code practices
  • Integrate AI-powered tools into engineering workflows, including test generation, code review assistance, and anomaly detection
  • Collaborate with platform and product teams to define developer standards, improve architecture practices, and reduce operational toil
  • Manage containerized environments and support scalable infrastructure on cloud platforms while participating in on-call rotations
Requirements

You bring deep backend engineering experience combined with a strong focus on developer productivity and platform engineering:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant exposure to DevEx, DevOps, or infrastructure-focused roles
  • Strong experience building and optimizing CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on expertise with cloud infrastructure and containerized environments (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform
  • Experience building internal tools using languages such as Python, Go, or Ruby
  • Familiarity with observability platforms (e.g., Datadog, Sentry) and production monitoring practices
  • Exposure to security and quality scanning tools (e.g., Snyk, Semgrep) integrated into delivery pipelines
  • Understanding of developer productivity concepts such as DORA metrics and modern DevEx frameworks
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence engineering best practices in distributed teams
  • A pragmatic mindset focused on improving systems incrementally while delivering measurable impact
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and market benchmarks in Canada
  • Remote-first work environment with flexibility and autonomy
  • Equity/stock options offering long-term participation in company growth
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Flexible time off policy to support work-life balance
  • Annual learning and development support, including access to online training platforms
  • Quarterly volunteer day to contribute to community initiatives
  • Regular team gatherings and off-site events to strengthen remote connection
  • Wellness and workspace support to improve day-to-day work comfort
