Qwaltec has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant is responsible for executing core accounting operations and supporting the monthly close process in a government contracting environment. This role requires strong accounting discipline, attention to detail, ownership of deadlines, and the ability to support accurate and timely financial information.
The ideal candidate has hands-on accounting experience, exposure to government contract accounting requirements, and the ability to support close, reconciliations, payroll, contract billing, financial schedules, and compliance activities. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys operational accounting, wants to grow in a GovCon finance environment, and can help strengthen processes as the company scales.
Responsibilities:
· Support execution of the monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.
· Prepare and maintain general ledger account reconciliations and assist in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of accounting records.
· Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, cash activity, contract billing, and other day-to-day accounting activities.
· Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and supporting schedules.
· Support government contract accounting requirements, including cost tracking, contract billing, indirect rate support, and audit documentation.
· Assist with incurred cost submission support, provisional billing rate support, and other government accounting compliance activities.
· Support proposal pricing and cost proposal activities through data gathering, schedules, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
· Assist with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial planning support as needed.
· Maintain organized accounting records, files, documentation, and support for internal reviews and external audits.
· Help improve accounting processes, workflows, documentation, and controls to support efficiency and scalability.
· Collaborate with Finance, Contracts, Operations, Program Management, and Executive Leadership to support accurate and timely financial information.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:· Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably within a government services or government contracting environment.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
· Demonstrated experience supporting month-end close activities, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
· Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, general ledger activity, and accounting documentation.
· Working knowledge of GAAP and strong understanding of accounting controls, accuracy, and documentation requirements.
· Familiarity with government contract accounting, FAR, DFARS, DCAA requirements, indirect rates, or incurred cost submissions preferred.
· Strong Excel skills and ability to work accurately with financial data, schedules, and reconciliations.
· Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and take ownership of assigned accounting responsibilities.
· Eligible to work in the United States and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with Unanet, Deltek Costpoint, or similar government contracting ERP and financial management systems.
· Experience supporting accounting operations for cost-reimbursable, fixed-price, T&M, IDIQ, or multi-award contract vehicles.
· Experience supporting government audits, incurred cost submissions, provisional billing rates, indirect rates, or proposal pricing activities.
· Experience improving accounting documentation, close processes, reconciliations, or workflow efficiency.
