Job Description:
The Capital Railroad Services, Inc. (CRS) is looking for dynamic individuals that are highly self-motivated to join our mobile bridge construction crews and enjoy rapid advancement opportunities while traveling the United States. This position involves travel throughout the US, with company-provided transportation. The travel rotation is scheduled six weeks on (with weekends off) and 1 week off. Rapid advancement opportunities are provided.

With foundational construction knowledge and physical labor experience, the Bridge Construction Technician will be trained to assist the Foreman with bridge repair and construction activities.
Compensation
The average starting wage for this role is between $22.65 – $25.75 per hour ($65,000 – $80,000 annually), commensurate with experience. Additional compensation includes: West and East Coast hourly premiums, CDL premium pay, and Lodging allowance of $805 per week.
Essential Functions
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform physically demanding construction tasks, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials weighing up to 70 pounds
- Work at elevated heights (up to 300 feet) using appropriate fall protection and lineman equipment
- Travel extensively and work extended schedules (6 weeks on / 1 week off) at remote job sites across the United States
- Operate and safely use hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment, including drills, impact wrenches, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, and chainsaws
- Remove, install, and secure structural steel and timber components using appropriate tools and techniques
- Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl on uneven terrain and structures
- Work in outdoor environments and variable weather conditions, including exposure to noise, vibration, and moving mechanical equipment
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including working around active rail lines and moving trains
- Communicate effectively with crew members in high-noise environments
- Read, understand, and complete required job-related documentation and safety forms
Job Responsibilities
- Remove steel rivets using pneumatic tools
- Tighten structural steel bolts using impact wrenches
- Cut and remove structural steel using oxygen and acetylene torches
- Drill holes in steel and timber using magnetic, electric, or hydraulic drills
- Install and dismantle scaffolding
- Drive spikes and pins using hand tools
- Perform digging and site preparation using hand tools
- Assist with general bridge repair and construction activities
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record (CDL preferred)
- Recent (within the last 6 months) experience performing heavy physical labor
- Proof of employment for the past 36 months
- Ability to work at heights and in physically demanding environments
Work Environment
- Routine exposure to outdoor weather conditions
- Work at heights up to 300 feet
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical sources
- Loud work environment requiring raised voice communication

- Current active driver's license with a favorable driving record (CDL is preferred and commands a premium rate)
- Previous and recent (within the last 6-months) experience with heavy physical labor
- Exposure to heights/no fear of heights
- Proof of active employment for last 24-months
Physical Demands
- This position involves heavy lifting of up to 70 pounds; long hours of standing, walking, and climbing on remote jobsites; detailed work with hands and fingers using machinery and controls; grabbing, reaching, and push/pull tasks; balancing, sometimes while stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Jobsites can be noisy with sounds of machinery and moving trains so raised voices may need to be used to hear.
- Ability to read and write are required as the position involves completion of information and forms.
Work Environment
- This position involves routine exposure to outside weather conditions and involves working around moving mechanical parts with vibration. Work is performed at heights of up to 300'
- Occasional work around fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals as well as sources of electricity
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
