Job Description

The Aerospace Engineer provides technical/engineering expertise on F-16 aircraft, including but not limited to, structures, avionics, flight controls, engine, air conditioning and pressurization, fire protection, fuel, hydraulics, landing gear, and related systems. They are responsible for coordinating activities cross functionally with the maintenance teams to ensure that work plans are developed to enable successful maintenance operations. They also interpret and translate engineering requirements and specifications into manufacturing plans and work instructions for the maintenance teams in support of cost, quality, schedule and safety goals while ensuring that processes meet the design criteria. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all aspects of multiple aviation engineering projects including project plans, technical drawings, specific project costing, resources and delivery of outcomes.
  • Hold regular cross-functional project meetings to review and update project schedule and delivery, risks, issues, actions status, logistics, resources, and objectives. Makes presentations/briefings on technical information.
  • Assure early problem identification and implementation of corrective action.
  • Define project work scope, develops statements of work, task descriptions, design plans, cost estimates and manpower requirements.
  • Provide the necessary technical and engineering guidance to meet schedules and fulfill requirements.
  • Effectively report to management on key project accomplishments and status.
  • Approve project related engineering data to assure compliance with corporate policies and FAA/military requirements as required.
  • Recommend and/or evaluate current or potential new products for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, quality standards, and specifications as needed.
  • Evaluate and recommend approval of design changes and drawing releases.
  • Formulate conceptual design to meet requirements.
  • Analyze project proposal to determine feasibility, productibility, cost, and production time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience and understanding of engineering processes including design, development, testing, change management, and configuration management.
  • Possess a strong problem-solving capability with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Possess a strong modeling, drafting, and tolerancing skillset.
  • Knowledgeable in SolidWorks to create parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in performing basic engineering analysis.
  • Ability to work hands on in a hangar environment around aircraft and maintenance personnel.
  • Must possess excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify data driven solutions to challenges or barriers.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team while demonstrating sound judgement and attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient in the English language and possess the ability to communicate effectively via verbal and written media with both internal and external customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of an Aerospace Engineer in daily work performance.
  • Must demonstrate safe and healthy workplace practices.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to travel within the US and internationally.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) and not be barred from any installation.

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or systems engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as an engineer within the aerospace industry required.
  • Experience with F-16 aircraft, strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with FAA Supplemental Type Certificate process for design data, prototype, installation and approval (CFR Part 21 Subpart E and AC 21-40A), a plus.
  • Experience with ASME Y14.5 GD&T, DoD Standards, a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer.
  • Ability to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, talk, walk, hear, see, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an office environment with standard lighting, noise levels, and climate conditions.
  • Some functions of this role are performed around loud noises and hazardous chemicals with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The Aerospace Engineer must be able to work in environments with exposure to noise, chemicals, dust, and varying weather conditions.
