Research AssistantThe part-time Research Assistant supports the planning, coordination, andpromotion of The Barnard Center for Research on Women's public programming. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Research Assistant conducts research for BCRW programming, coordinates events logistics, and assists with communications and outreach. The Research Assistant serves as BCRW's primary liaison to its student network, cultivating relationships with undergraduate students, coordinating with undergraduate Research Assistants, supporting student programming, and producing the Center's biweekly student newsletter.
Job Description:
Programming Coordination and Logistics
- Researches, in collaboration with Center staff, topics and speakers for annual programming, including the Scholar and Feminist Conference.
- Maintains programming calendars, timelines, and planning documents for Center events.
- Supports all operational aspects of the Scholar and Feminist Conference, including maintaining the conference run of show; coordinating student workers, volunteers, speakers, and vendors; preparing conference materials and communications; and serving as the primary operational point of contact during the conference.
- Manages event logistics with the support of undergraduate Research Assistants, including room setup, catering, A/V, videography, photography, ASL interpretation, and book sales.
- Produces online events with the Creative Director and other Center staff.
- Coordinates logistics with internal partners, including Events Management and Facilities, and external contractors, including ASL interpreters, booksellers, artists, and printers.
Programming Promotion
- Maintains a schedule for promoting the Center’s programming and publications across all BCRW communications vehicles.
- Develops content and engages audiences for programming, publications, video productions, and projects on BCRW website, email lists, and social media channels.
- Writes and maintains event descriptions for BCRW website, Mailchimp, promotional materials, and social media.
- Sends and tracks programming invitations through Eventbrite and internal communications channels.
- Manages BCRW email list through Mailchimp.
- Collaborates with Central Communications on design and production of print materials and promotion of Center events.
Student Outreach
- Manages the work of undergraduate Research Assistants supporting programming.
- Collaborates with undergraduate Research Assistants to produce BCRW's biweekly student newsletter.
- Coordinates student workshops, meetings, and other student-facing programming in collaboration with Center staff.
- Cultivates relationships with Barnard student organizations and serves as a primary liaison between BCRW and its undergraduate student community.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent project management, time management, and organizational skills: ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work proactively, independently, and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with internal colleagues and external partners.
- Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to communicate clearly and effectively with faculty, administration, and students, to maintain confidentiality when required, and to exercise tact and discretion.
- Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies or a related field in the humanities or social sciences.
- 1-2 years’ experience in higher education or non-profit in Programming Communications, and/or Public Engagement.
- Demonstrated knowledge of intersectional social justice feminist research and activism.
- Demonstrated experience with design programs (Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat).
- Demonstrated experience with producing digital publications and social media content.
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
