Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Reports To: HCBS Supervisor

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at First Resources Corp., you will play a vital role in providing compassionate, direct care to individuals with intellectual disabilities and chronic mental illness. You will support clients with daily living activities, promote community involvement, and empower personal growth in accordance with each individual’s Person-Centered Service Plan (PCSP).

• Direct Client Care: Supervise, train, and assist clients with daily tasks, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and household chores.
• Community Engagement: Support clients during community outings, medical appointments, and leisure activities, providing transportation as needed.
• Documentation & Compliance: Complete accurate documentation (progress notes, seizure logs, MAR, incident reports) within 24 hours of service delivery.
• Safety & Advocacy: Maintain a safe, respectful, and clean environment. Advocate for client rights, honors choices, and utilize non-aversive behavior management techniques.
• Communication & Scheduling: Develop weekly client-centered schedules with supervisor approval and stay in close, timely communication with the team and management.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• High school education or equivalent; experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
• Must possess bask knowledge of computers and computer-based programs.
• Satisfactory results on background checks pertaining to criminal and abuse registries.
• Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds without restrictions.
• Successfully complete all new hire orientation checklist.
• Satisfactory attend all required trainings by agency.
• Successfully complete the established medication administration training and observe pass medications accordingly.
• Must have access to a telephone.
• Must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and personal auto insurance as required by the State of Iowa and be insurable under the company’s insurance.
