Description:

I. POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for setting, stocking, operating, and maintaining the golf course beverage cart and on-course beverage stations. Provide prompt, courteous, and responsible food and beverage service to members and guests on the golf course, practice facilities, and during golf outings and tournaments throughout the season.

II. ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform pre- and post-shift duties, including inspecting the beverage cart, coolers and on-course beverage stations to ensure adequate supplies are available
  • Coordinate with the Golf Shop, starters and rangers regarding tee sheet volume, pace of play, outings, tournaments and course closures; adjust routes and stocking levels accordingly
  • Requisition and stock the cart with beer, wine, spirits, non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, ice, cups, garnishes and sundries
  • Follow set-up procedures and pre-mix beverages according to the recipes approved by the manager
  • Operate the beverage cart safely on the golf course, cart paths and practice facilities in accordance with Club cart rules, golf etiquette, course conditions, weather and lighting safety procedures; never interfere with play and return to clubhouse when course is cleared
  • Greet members and guests by name whenever possible; anticipate needs and circulate the course at appropriate intervals so that every group is offered service
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks to members and guests on the course, at the practice range and at on-course beverage stations
  • Maintain an assigned cash bank; reconcile sales, cash and charges at the close of each shift according to prescribed procedures
  • Carefully follow all state and local laws and Club policies and procedures regarding alcoholic beverage service, including checking identification and declining service where appropriate
  • Support golf outings, tournaments and special events by staffing on-course beverage stations, hospitality tents and turn stations as assigned
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the beverage cart, coolers, dispensers and equipment; take out trash/recycles and keep beverage stations and turn areas clean and orderly
  • Maintain daily inventory, report low stock, spoilage, or breakage to the manager
  • Report complaints, incidents, accidents or cart damage to a manager as soon as they occur
  • Return, restock, clean and charge the beverage cart items at the end of each shift; secure keys, product and cash according to prescribed procedures
  • Regularly inspect assigned service areas and equipment to ensure that sanitation, safety, energy management, preventive maintenance and other standards of the department are met
  • May assist in the clubhouse bar, snack bar, or banquet functions when the course is closed or volume is low
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:

III. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age, as required by Florida law for the sale and service of alcoholic beverages
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record; ability to safely operate a golf/beverage cart on paved paths and uneven terrain
  • HS Diploma or GED, or currently enrolled in an educational program
  • Experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, or any similar combination of education and experience; prior food and beverage, bartending or hospitality experience preferred
  • Florida responsible vendor/alcohol service training (e.g., TIPS or ServSafe Alcohol) and food handler certification preferred; must be obtained within 30 days of hire
  • Basic math skills and accuracy in cash handling; experience with POS or handheld ordering systems preferred
  • Basic knowledge of the game of golf and golf course etiquette preferred
  • Availability to work a flexible seasonal schedule including early mornings, weekends and holidays; full availability for the duration of the season is required
  • Demonstrated organization and coordination skills and ability to meet deadlines and ability to multi-task in a sporadic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while representing the Club on the course
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards
  • Strong reasoning ability and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship-building skills
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service

IV. Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, bend, twist, climb, clean, walk on rough ground, and lift up to 40 pounds with frequent repetitive motions (cases of beverages, bags of ice)
  • Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods and handle hot and cold exterior conditions including direct sun, heat, humidity, rain, wind and insects
  • Must be able to safely operate and ride in a golf cart over uneven terrain for the duration of a shift
  • Must be able to work in close proximity to moving machinery, golf carts and golf course maintenance equipment
  • Must be able to handle exposure to dust, fumes and gases
  • Independent mobility

V. Schedule and Seasonal Status

  • Seasonal, non-exempt position paid hourly plus gratuities; season runs approximately October through May with hours varying based on tee sheet volume, weather and Club events
  • Typical shifts are 6 to 8 hours between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, including weekends and holidays; the Club does not guarantee a minimum number of hours
  • Employment ends at the close of the season; strong performers may be invited to return the following season or considered for year-round openings within Food & Beverage
  • Uniform shirt and hat provided; Club-approved shorts/pants and closed-toe, non-slip footwear required
