Job Description
Columbia Vehicle Group (CVG) is hiring an experienced CNC Laser/Automation Operator for second shift in Aiken, South Carolina. If you know your way around a fiber laser, take pride in clean cuts, and can solve problems on the fly, we want to meet you.
CVG designs and builds low-speed electric vehicles and electric industrial vehicles and is part of the Nordic Group of Companies. Every part you cut goes straight into vehicles our customers depend on every day.
Shift premium: This second shift position earns an additional $1.00 per hour on top of base pay.
What You'll Do
Set up and run an automated CNC fiber laser cell, from powering on to selecting the right cutting parameters for each material.
Work with DXF and DSI files and nesting software to build efficient nests that reduce scrap and waste.
Align optics and keep the machine cutting at a consistent, high level of quality.
Read blueprints and CAD drawings, including revision levels, and catch deviations before they become problems.
Troubleshoot cutting errors, material jams, and program faults quickly to keep downtime to a minimum.
Follow safe operating practices, including hazard zones, emergency shut-offs, alarm resets, and proper ventilation.
Keep your work area clean, organized, and ready for the next run.
Communicate with peers, engineers, and management, and pitch in on other machines as needed.
What You Bring
Required
3 or more years of experience operating CNC laser, plasma, turret punch, or similar CNC fabrication equipment.
High school diploma or GED.
Proficiency with computers, CNC control programs, and nesting software.
Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings and use precision measuring tools.
A dependable, punctual work record and the drive to perform at a high level.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve issues with minimal support.
Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
Experience with automated fiber laser cells (for example Trumpf, Bystronic, Amada, or Mazak).
Familiarity with CAM software.
Technical certificate or coursework in CNC operation or manufacturing technology.
Forklift or overhead crane certification.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and 5S.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on manufacturing role. You will stand and walk for the full shift, regularly lift up to 50 lbs., and work around automated equipment, sheet metal, and compressed gases. PPE is required to be worn.
Why Join CVG
At CVG, the parts you cut go directly into electric vehicles that change how people move and work. You'll run advanced automated laser equipment, work alongside a team that takes safety and quality seriously, and have room to grow by learning new machines and processes. If you're ready to put your experience to work somewhere it makes a real difference, we want to hear from you.
