Location: On-site, New Orleans, LA

Summary/Objective: The Driver and Logistics Supervisor supports STEM NOLA’s programs and daily operations by safely transporting authorized staff, equipment, supplies, and program materials between STEM NOLA’s New Orleans locations, event sites, vendors, storage areas, and other approved destinations. This position includes driving, logistics, and operational responsibilities such as vendor coordination, receiving, material handling, contract and inventory oversight, supervision of loading crews and staff members, and logistics planning across programs, routes, and packing needs.

The Driver and Logistics Supervisor is responsible for protecting employees, organizational property, and the public through safe vehicle operation, proper cargo handling, accurate documentation, and consistent compliance with STEM NOLA policies and applicable transportation requirements.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Transportation and Vehicle Safety

  • Safely transport authorized adult staff, equipment, supplies, and program materials to approved locations.
  • Complete assigned pickups, deliveries, and transfers accurately and on schedule.
  • Follow all traffic laws, vehicle restrictions, insurance requirements, and STEM NOLA safety procedures.
  • Inspect assigned vehicles before use and promptly report damage, maintenance needs, accidents, citations, or unsafe conditions.
  • Secure equipment and materials before transport and maintain vehicles and cargo areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Use a personal vehicle for STEM NOLA business only when approved and after providing required license and insurance documentation.

Logistics, Shipping, and Material Handling

  • Oversee truck loading crews and staff members assigned to loading, unloading, staging, packing, and related logistics activities.
  • Load, unload, move, organize, and stage STEM equipment, program kits, supplies, signage, furniture, technology, and event materials.
  • Pack, label, ship, receive, and route materials in accordance with delivery instructions and internal procedures.
  • Verify that materials are delivered, returned, or stored in the correct quantity and location.
  • Maintain accurate mileage, delivery, shipment, receipt, inventory, and vehicle-use records.
  • Promptly report missing, damaged, delayed, or incorrectly delivered items.
  • Support inventory controls, storage organization, equipment readiness, and material tracking across STEM NOLA programs.

Event and Operational Support

  • Plan and coordinate logistics across programs, routes, packing needs, event schedules, supplies, and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate vendor communication related to deliveries, supplies, logistics services, transportation needs, equipment, and event support.
  • Support contract and inventory oversight by tracking vendor-related details, inventory status, delivery expectations, and operational needs.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for STEM Saturdays, STEM Fests, camps, school programs, community events, and other initiatives.
  • Arrange and repack tables, chairs, signage, technology, activity materials, STEM kits, and related equipment.
  • Support storage, inventory, facilities, and general operational needs when not actively driving.
  • Communicate schedule changes, route delays, delivery status, and operational concerns to the appropriate team members.
  • Represent STEM NOLA professionally when interacting with employees, vendors, schools, community partners, and the public.
  • Maintain accurate work, scheduling, logistics, and operational records as required.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Education, Experience, & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least one year of experience in driving, delivery, logistics, warehouse operations, shipping and receiving, event operations, crew coordination, vendor coordination, or a related field preferred.
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and any other license classification, endorsement, or training required for the assigned vehicle and responsibilities.
  • Ability to pass a Louisiana State Police background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle record review.
  • Ability to safely operate assigned passenger vehicles, vans, trucks, rented moving trucks, or similar vehicles.
  • Ability to follow routes, schedules, safety procedures, delivery instructions, packing plans, and event plans.
  • Familiarity with the Greater New Orleans area preferred.
  • Ability to use basic technology for navigation, communication, scheduling, timekeeping, mileage, inventory tracking, and shipment tracking.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, sound judgment, and strong safety awareness.
  • Professional communication skills and commitment to STEM NOLA’s mission and youth-centered programming.
  • Experience supporting a nonprofit, education, youth-serving, or community-based organization preferred.

The employee must maintain any license classification, CDL, endorsement, training, and insurance eligibility required for the specific vehicle assigned. The employee must immediately report any license suspension, restriction, expiration, insurance lapse, or other circumstance that may affect driving eligibility.

Work Environment & Demands:

  • Up to 40% travel is required, including regular local travel throughout Greater New Orleans and between STEM NOLA locations; occasional regional or overnight travel may be required.
  • Early morning, evening, weekend, and occasional holiday work may be required based on program and event schedules.
  • Work is performed in vehicles, offices, storage areas, schools, community facilities, loading areas, and indoor and outdoor event environments. Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and rain.
  • The position requires extended periods of driving, standing, and walking, as well as frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, carrying, loading, packing, staging, and unloading. Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds, with assistance or equipment when appropriate.
  • Capacity to perform repetitive tasks; read, analyze, and interpret data; maintain visual attention and mental concentration for significant periods of time.
  • Must be able to maintain the attention, judgment, and awareness necessary to safely operate a vehicle, oversee loading activities, and handle equipment.
