Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a MEP Estimator - Data Center Construction based in United States.
This role is a key preconstruction position focused on delivering accurate, data-driven cost estimates for complex mission-critical infrastructure projects. You will specialize in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems that power high-performance data center environments.
The position plays a critical role in shaping project budgets, ensuring cost accuracy, and identifying value-engineering opportunities from early concept through procurement.
You will work closely with general contractors, trade partners, and internal estimating teams to develop coordinated, high-quality estimates across all MEP scopes.
A strong emphasis is placed on market intelligence, including labor trends, material pricing, and long-lead equipment forecasting for critical systems.
The environment is fast-paced and highly technical, requiring precision, collaboration, and strong analytical capability.
This role is well suited for an estimator who understands the complexity of data center infrastructure and enjoys working on large-scale, high-impact construction programs.
In this role, you will lead MEP estimating activities across conceptual planning, budgeting, and procurement support for data center projects:
- Conduct market research and cost analysis for MEP systems, including labor availability, commodity pricing, and equipment lead times.
- Develop conceptual and detailed cost estimates for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems.
- Perform quantity takeoffs using tools such as Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or equivalent platforms.
- Analyze historical cost data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost optimization.
- Produce cost variance reports across design milestones and support value engineering decisions.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing for complex MEP and critical infrastructure systems.
- Support constructability reviews to identify coordination issues and improve design efficiency.
- Assist in RFP development, bid evaluation, and contractor selection processes.
- Participate in change order analysis, cost reconciliation, and forensic estimating activities.
- Support MEP buyout activities, including bid clarification, RFIs, and post-bid negotiations.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure aligned scope definition and accurate budget development.
The ideal candidate brings strong estimating expertise in mission-critical or large-scale industrial construction environments:
- 4+ years of estimating experience focused on MEP and low-voltage systems, preferably in data centers or heavy industrial projects.
- Proven experience estimating large-scale projects valued at $50M+ with complex mechanical and electrical scopes.
- Strong ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems.
- Proficiency with estimating tools such as Destini, RIB CostX, WinEst, or similar software, as well as advanced Excel skills.
- Solid understanding of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, redundancy, and cooling systems.
- Ability to interpret MEP drawings, specifications, and single-line electrical diagrams.
- Knowledge of long-lead equipment procurement, including generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and transformers.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with contractors, vendors, and internal teams.
- Experience in bid leveling, cost reconciliation, and change order evaluation is highly valued.
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience in mission-critical construction estimating.
- Remote flexibility within the United States.
- Opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact data center projects.
- Exposure to advanced MEP systems and cutting-edge infrastructure environments.
- Collaborative, expert-driven team environment focused on technical excellence.
- Professional growth opportunities within the rapidly expanding data center sector.
- Involvement in full project lifecycle activities from preconstruction through procurement.
