Job Overview

The Rental Technician is responsible for providing guests with properly sized, fitted, and adjusted ski and snowboard rental equipment in accordance with industry standards and Seven Oaks safety procedures. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Rental Technicians assist guests throughout the rental process, maintain rental equipment and documentation, and help ensure the Rental Shop remains clean, organized, safe, and ready for daily operations.

Essential Job Functions

Equipment Fitting & Rental Process

• Assist guests throughout the rental process, including completing rental forms and selecting appropriate equipment.
• Interpret guest information, including height, weight, shoe size, age, and skier type, to properly select and fit rental equipment.
• Accurately fit guests with ski and snowboard boots, skis, snowboards, bindings, and helmets.
• Set and adjust ski and snowboard bindings according to manufacturer specifications, industry standards, rental charts, and established safety procedures.
• Complete all required rental agreements, equipment documentation, and check-in/check-out procedures accurately.
• Educate guests on the proper use of rental equipment and answer basic equipment-related questions.

Equipment Maintenance & Safety

• Inspect rental equipment before and after use for damage, excessive wear, or other safety concerns.
• Perform basic equipment adjustments and repairs within the scope of training provided.
• Check applicable safety equipment and machinery for proper operation.
• Immediately report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or potential safety hazards to a supervisor.
• Clean and dry skis, snowboards, boots, helmets, and other rental equipment before returning items to inventory.
• Gather rental equipment from outside areas and return it to the appropriate location.
• Document missing, damaged, or broken rental equipment according to established procedures.

Rental Shop Operations

• Perform daily opening and closing procedures for the Rental Shop.
• Maintain an organized, clean, safe, and professional Rental Shop and work area.
• Keep rental equipment properly organized and displayed.
• Maintain accurate equipment check-in/check-out records.
• Complete routine cleaning duties, including wiping counters and workstations, taking out trash, and keeping floors and work areas clear.
• Assist with snow removal from patios, decks, entrances, and other areas as needed.
• Perform other duties necessary to support Rental Shop operations.

Guest Service & Teamwork

• Provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service throughout the rental experience.
• Work efficiently to minimize guest wait times while maintaining accuracy and safety.
• Remain courteous and professional during busy or stressful periods.
• Communicate effectively with guests of all ages, including children and adults.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and employees in other departments.
• Assist other Seven Oaks departments when needed to support overall operations and guest service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of hire.
• Minimum of three months of customer service experience preferred.
• Previous retail, rental, skiing, or snowboarding experience preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of skis, snowboards, boots, and bindings preferred; technical training will be provided.
• Ability to read and accurately use sizing charts, binding/DIN charts, rental forms, and established technical procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to guest and employee safety.
• Ability to problem-solve and use sound judgment.
• Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other peak periods as scheduled.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and repetitive movements.
• Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, and move rental equipment weighing up to approximately 30 pounds.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that may become crowded and stressful during peak business periods.
• Work is primarily performed indoors in the Rental Shop; however, employees may be required to work outdoors periodically.
• Regular exposure to cold, snow, water, and wet rental equipment.
• Ability to safely work around rental equipment, tools, and machinery.
