VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field or other degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions. A master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Rehabilitation is required for some assigned programs.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIREMENT:

Depending on assignment, may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.

Depending on assignment, may require Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) certification and highest Part C standards within 6 months of hire; CPR, First Aid and medication administration certifications within 3 months of hire, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) certification upon hire, Case Management Modules and Intellectual Disabilities Workbook completed within thirty days of hire, Part C Early Intervention Certification within six months of hire, and/or Pre-Screening Certification within 6 weeks of hire (12 weeks for part-time staff).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Community Services Board or Behavioral Health experience preferred. Experience working with populations to include individuals across the lifespan, those with serious mental illness, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, individuals with substance use disorders, and individuals connected to the legal system.

As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing.
