Job Description
Position Purpose
This position is ideal for a safety-focused, customer-oriented driver who enjoys local deliveries and a flexible, variable schedule. The Local Box Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating a box truck to deliver products and supplies to customers within the local service area, while providing professional and reliable customer service. Deliveries may include manually unloading products using a hand truck or pallet jack on truck ramps and returning equipment or materials to the warehouse as needed. Work is scheduled based on business and customer needs, with operations generally occurring Monday through Friday; scheduled days and hours may vary from week to week. All duties must be performed safely, timely, and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The position may also support warehouse or driving-related duties, including Production and Forklift, as needed.
Primary responsibilities*:
- Perform all pre-trip responsibilities including: obtaining and reviewing driver itinerary, checking route and account numbers for assigned deliveries, counting items and checking customer invoices of products that have been loaded, completing required pre-trip safety check inspections of trucks and trailers according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Drive to and deliver customer orders to meet the scheduled customer times and maintain adequate productivity rate to meet delivery schedules.
- Visually survey the customer's site during the approach to determine hazards.
- Unload and load products from the trailer with a hand truck, pallet jack or forklift.
- Verify delivery of correct items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Contact management for authorization of invoice discrepancies and communicate all errors and returns.
- Return to the warehouse when the route is completed.
- Perform all post-trip responsibilities: unloading damaged goods and customer returns and completing necessary paperwork; performing safety checks on the truck fueling (as required); parking and securing the tractor; completing DOT logs (electronic or manual as required) and company vehicle maintenance reports (DVIR) and reconcile these with the appropriate company representative as required.
- Attend all required company meetings and adhere to all safety practices and company policies.
- Follow division shift times, enter days of week and hours, and continue until the work is completed within DOT HOS regulations.
- Must satisfactorily complete all company-mandated training

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid chauffeur license required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and successfully pass a DOT physical administered by a certified medical examiner, as required for the vehicle and operation.
- Must meet company driving standards, including satisfactory motor vehicle record review, license verification, and applicable background and substance screening requirements.
- Minimum two years of commercial driving experience
- Must have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations.
- Candidate must possess a strong safety focus and background.
- Forklift Certified
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must perform all job functions safely. Must be able to work the scheduled/assigned times and required overtime for the position. Must know/have the ability to learn material safety data sheet information regarding all material used within the scope of the work. Must have excellent customer service skills. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must successfully complete the DOT written examination for drivers and pass a controlled substance abuse screening test. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions. Must adhere to all safety practices and company policies.
No more than two convictions in the past two-year period for traffic violations. No more than one of these may be a serious (as defined by DOT) violation or result of an accident - company or private vehicle; No DUI convictions within past three years, regardless of type of vehicle operated; no driver's license suspension within past three years (insurance and overweight tickets are excluded); and no termination by previous employer for failure to comply with safety regulations or for accident involvement for the past three years.

Schedule: Part-time
Shift: This is a part-time, variable schedule position. Business operations are Monday through Friday, but work schedules will be assigned based on operational needs and may vary from week to week. Availability during operating days is required, but this does not guarantee work every day.
COMPENSATION
The base salary for this position is projected to be within the range of $22.00-26.00 depending on the candidate's prior experience.
