Chief Marketing Officer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Chief Marketing Officer based in South Africa.

As Chief Marketing Officer, you will shape and lead the global marketing strategy for a fast-scaling, well-funded European deep-tech company operating at the intersection of AI and cloud infrastructure. You will define the brand, positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategy while building scalable demand-generation programs that directly support revenue growth. Working closely with founders and commercial leadership, you will translate complex AI and infrastructure technologies into compelling narratives for technical and enterprise audiences. You will oversee product marketing, content, campaigns, events, partnerships, and market expansion initiatives. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you will build the marketing function from the ground up and establish the foundations for long-term growth. You will also use data, AI tools, and performance insights to continuously optimize marketing impact, pipeline contribution, and ROI.

Accountabilities
  • Define and execute the global marketing and go-to-market strategy, aligned with business objectives and growth priorities.
  • Own company positioning, messaging, brand strategy, and market differentiation across AI, cloud infrastructure, and deep-tech markets.
  • Build scalable demand-generation programs spanning content, digital marketing, events, partnerships, and community initiatives.
  • Develop thought leadership and high-quality content that engages technical audiences, enterprise buyers, and technology decision-makers.
  • Partner closely with Sales and senior leadership to generate qualified pipeline, improve conversion, and strengthen commercial performance.
  • Lead product marketing activities, including launches, campaigns, messaging, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Translate complex technical products and concepts into clear, compelling value propositions for both technical and business audiences.
  • Establish marketing processes, systems, and workflows that can scale alongside the organization.
  • Build and manage the marketing function, including recruiting team members and coordinating external agencies, consultants, and partners.
  • Track and optimize key marketing metrics, including pipeline contribution, customer acquisition cost, ROI, and campaign performance.
  • Use market intelligence, customer insights, and performance data to guide strategic marketing decisions.
  • Leverage AI-powered tools to accelerate research, content creation, campaign development, and marketing operations.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, and founders to ensure marketing is integrated into the broader go-to-market strategy.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in B2B technology marketing, including significant experience in marketing leadership.
  • Proven track record of leading marketing within a high-growth technology company, startup, SaaS business, or comparable environment.
  • Strong understanding of AI, cloud infrastructure, SaaS, developer platforms, GPU computing, or adjacent deep-tech markets.
  • Demonstrated experience developing positioning, demand generation, and go-to-market strategies from the ground up.
  • Strong content, storytelling, and communication capabilities, with the ability to make complex technical products accessible and compelling.
  • Experience working closely with founders and cross-functional teams across Sales, Product, and Engineering.
  • Strong commercial and analytical mindset, with experience using data and performance metrics to drive marketing decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work hands-on and strategically in an early-stage, rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience building and scaling marketing teams, functions, or external partner networks.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise technology buyers and technical decision-makers.
  • Comfortable working in a distributed, international environment and collaborating across EMEA and other global markets.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively incorporate AI tools into marketing research, content development, and workflows.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in AI infrastructure, GPU computing, cloud platforms, or developer-focused technology.
  • Established network within the AI, cloud, developer, or broader deep-tech ecosystem.
  • Experience marketing complex infrastructure products to enterprise customers.
  • Experience scaling a marketing function from an early-stage startup.
  • International go-to-market or market expansion experience.
  • Previous experience working with distributed or remote-first teams.
Benefits:

  • Opportunity to build and lead the marketing function of a rapidly scaling AI-native cloud business.
  • Significant influence over global brand positioning and go-to-market strategy.
  • Direct collaboration with founders and senior commercial leadership.
  • Opportunity to shape how next-generation AI infrastructure is positioned in the market.
  • High level of ownership and autonomy in building marketing strategy, processes, and teams from the ground up.
  • Exposure to the rapidly evolving AI, GPU infrastructure, cloud computing, and deep-tech ecosystem.
  • International and distributed working environment.
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a technology platform focused on more efficient and environmentally conscious cloud infrastructure.
  • Competitive executive-level compensation and benefits package, with specific details to be discussed during the recruitment process.
